IMMERSION 2024 : VISION (Visioning Overseas Information Systems In Technology)

The Industrial Revolution 5.0 era has brought about major changes in the way humans work and live through the adoption of increasingly sophisticated and connected technology. The development of this technology affects almost all aspects of life, including interactions on an international scale, where the ability to adapt and communicate without time and space limits becomes a very important skill to face future overseas  challenges. In gaining new insights on an international scale. The Information Systems Student Association (HIMSISFO) held an yearly international event known as Immersion HIMSISFO.

Information Systems Student Association (HIMSISFO) this year successfully implemented an Immersion work program with the theme VISION: “Visioning Overseas Information Systems Technology”. The activity was held for 6 days and 5 nights from November 18 until 23, Immersion participants are expected to be able to explore several important aspects in the development of information systems technology by visiting companies, campuses, and studying the culture also daily life in the country in Hong Kong, which is the overseas or immersion country destination this year is.

Educational and Industrial Exploration

Company visit at Centre for Advances in Reliability and Safety (CAiRS)

At Centre for Advances in Reliability and Safety we were greeted by Mr. Adam W.H. Kok who is Senior Technical Marketing Manager and Mr. Andrew Chan who is Assistant Technical Marketing Manager. They led us to a presentation room,  where we learned about the company’s profile, such as the company background and the company vision that focused on utilizing artificial intelligence technology to conduct product reliability and system safety research to accurately predict failures and prevent them from happening. Additionally, Mr. Vincent T.Y. Ng shared an insightful presentation about Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). We were then given the opportunity to see their lab, where we observed prototypes and groundbreaking projects that showcased of their solution technology prototypes.


Company visit at Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP)

At Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, we tour the Experience Centre space which is a state-of-the-art experience space as a symbol of the dynamic I&T ecosystem. As we explored, we were fascinated by the latest collection of breakthrough innovations and technologies that exemplified the park’s commitment to fostering transformative advancements. Each display highlighted the collaborative achievements of talented minds driving continuous innovation, leaving us inspired by their forward momentum.


Company visit at Odoo

At Odoo, we were guided by an Odoo officer to the presentation room. Before diving into the presentation, we participated in a fun group activity, setting a collaborative tone for the visit. The presentation began with an introduction of Odoo company and the company’s vision and mission. A standout moment was the hands-on case study, where we took on the role of business/system analysts to solve a real-world business challenge, then we presented the reasons behind the answer. After the presentation, there was also a company tour. The tour of Odoo’s workspace afterward gave us a peek into their dynamic and inspiring working environment, which radiated innovation and teamwork.


Campus visit at Hong Kong University Science and Technology (HKUST)

When we arrived at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, we were greeted by employees from the marketing team, ms. Mandy M.Y.SIN. They introduced us to the university’s inspiring profile and diverse Master’s programs, sparking interest among many of us for future academic pursuits. We also did a campus tour led by HKUST students ambassadors from Indonesia, we were shown various facilities and some of the unique functions of the campus facilities.


Tourist Attraction

Beside main activity participants also had the chance to engage in side activities to learn about Hong Kong culture. Participant could immersing themselves in culture and history of Hong Kong while enjoying a refreshing gateway to some of the city’s tourist destination.

We visited some interesting tourist attractions such as Kowloon Park, Hong Kong Museum Of Art, Temple Street Night Market, watched Symphony of Light. We also shopped for snacks and others at Don Don Donki, Mong Kok and also visited historical places such as Tai Kwun, Golden Bauhinia Square.
