Please Don’t Bully! It gives the impact on their life
Bullying is a big problem among teenagers that we often encounter. Victims usually get physical and emotional violence that is most commonly done on children/teenagers. Bullying is a global problem and it is recognized by all people in the world that has a negative impact on victims. Intimidating for the sake of oppression or advocating aggressively with the intention to hurt or abuse others, in acts that are repetitive and involve an imbalance of power. Bullying in the school environment should receive more considerable attention. Why? Because a school is an educational place for them to learn, and even that is where they are bullied will affect their quality of life for their future generations.
Before we go to the dangers of bullying, firstly, we must recognize the condition of bullying in our country. Indonesia is one of the countries suspected of still experiencing a high rate of bullying, such as bullying behavior among teenagers, although accurate data is still unknown. It is likely that as many as 40% of teenagers have been bullied at school and others report that they have been victims of physical violence as many as 15% have been intimidated, 19% have been ostracized, 22% have been insulted and their goods were stolen. Furthermore, as many as 14% of students in Indonesia claimed to be threatened, 18% were encouraged by their friends, and 20% were students whose bad news was spread. The results of this survey indicate that one in two young men (47.45%) and one in three young women (35.05%) are reported to be intimidated.
Never consider this simple problem; it is evident that in Indonesia, there are people who are willing to end their lives by suicidal because of being bullied. Terrible, isn’t it? There are many factors that cause someone to do bullying behavior, one of which is because they have the same past experience. Victims of bullying can turn into perpetrators of bullying if the conditions allow.
If we look at today, there may still be some activities that use violence, such as the activity of accepting new student when entering university. Moreover, it usually will be a cycle, juniors who once experienced bullying will do the same thing to their juniors again, because when he does that, he feels confident because they can master others, and will lead to a pattern of a tradition for an institution / the study program
In addition to past experiences, parents also play an important role in bullying behavior. This is because parents who are very authoritarian and often use physical punishment will make imitated by children and practiced in their environment. Not just that, parents also have to accompany children when watching television because the actual behavior of bullying has been shown through cartoons that are watched on television. For example, scenes in Mickey Mouse, Doraemon, Tom and Jerry, or Spongebob. An example of the scene is in the film Doraemon where the character Giant shows behavior that bullies Nobita, such as hitting, threatening, and does not want to be friends with Nobita. Children who watch these cartoons with no parent’s assistance may be imitating Giant’s behavior because they idolize it or make it as their role model without knowing that the act of bullying is an act that is not commendable.
The impact of bullying is very diverse, ranging from very mild impacts such as fear of coming to school, school performance decreases until suicide. The diversity is caused by various factors, including social support received from parents and the environment, forms of bullying received by children, and the characteristics of the child himself.
Therefore, parents must educate their children to be empowered and independent from an early age, so that children have good self-confidence and they are not easily manipulated by others. One way that parents can do is to include children in various activities because by participating in these activities will cause a feeling of being able and confident in themselves. In addition, parents must also be aware of everything that happens since they still a kid, so if there is a problem, parents can detect it early, and solve it.
Bullying behavior can be eliminated, and certainly eliminating bullying requires the cooperation of various parties, especially for adolescents who are not under the protection/responsibility of certain institutions. Therefore, we need good collaboration from various parties, ranging from parents, schools, and communities (youth organizations, religious organizations, educational institutions). So that they can be role models that provide guidance as well as selecting which positive activities should be developed, and which activities which is harmful and must be dismissed. So, what are you waiting for? Stop bullying from now on.
