The Importance of Knowing the Differences between Introverts and Extroverts in HRD
The organization is a place for people who work together to achieve certain goals. Even though having the same goals, the organization consists of many individual characters, backgrounds, and habits. HRD or Human Resource Development is a division in an organization that has an important role in recognizing the character of members of the organization so that members of the organization can achieve maximum performance per the tasks and positions in the organization.
To able to recognize members of the organization properly, HRD can find out through the personality of each individual. According to Koetjaraningrat, personality can be defined as a combination of characteristics or qualities of an individual’s distinctive character. The classification of extrovert and introverted personality types can evaluate the patterns of communication and social interaction of each individual. Regarding this classification, learn about extrovert and introvert differences in organizational members can affect many aspects, such as work performance and potential members.
The terms of introvert and extrovert were first popularized by a famous Swiss psychologist named Carl Gustav Jung (C.G Jung). C.G Jung argues that the main concept for conducting a psychological analysis of a person is by examining their character.
An introvert is the character of someone who is more concerned about the world in their mind itself. An introvert tends to close him/herself, likes calm conditions, and likes to do solitary activities (can be done alone without the help of others). Another characteristic of introverts is that they tend to do well with simple/easy tasks and tend to carry out tasks that demand preparedness. The approach to introverts in organizations is to establish a personal relationship well and gradually because an introvert will be more open to those who can be trusted and give time to analyze organizational tasks given because an introvert needs more time to adapt and understand the situation.
Extroverts have different means with introverts. An extrovert prefers an interactive environment. The characteristics of an extrovert are friendly, impulsive, and like to be involved in group activities. In organizations, the way to approach an extrovert is to provide many challenges and provide an interactive environment. Because an extrovert tends to like things when done in an interactive environment such as discussion and socialization.
An HRD can also find out whether members of the organization are introverted and extroverted through how members enjoy the work given, how to make social contact, how to express emotions.
By seeing a significant difference between introverts and extroverts, knowing the characteristics of each member is an important thing to identify every member to achieve organizational goals.
