Glow in The Dark Fair
BSSC Earth Hour 2018 was held during the days leading up to the official day of Earth Hour. At BINUS Square Hall of Residence, BSSC has successfully celebrated Earth Hour with a series of events, games, and one of them being the “Glow in The Dark” exhibition. As stated from the title, this exhibition displays various pieces that glows up in the dark for visitors to enjoy. These pieces include various endangered animals such as elephants, the Sumatran tiger, and lastly, the panda. The animal displays are put in various places throughout the room for people to observe and ponder. Besides animals, a giant dying tree that is decorated with lots of leaves that glows in the dark, is put in the middle of the room as the main set piece of the exhibition. But most importantly, these animals and trees are made mainly out of recycled plastic bottles and unused newspapers.
The main goal of this exhibition is to spread awareness to everyone about our earth’s current condition and how we humans should start taking action to save our earth. In this exhibition, visitors will get to play a small game of “treasure hunting” where they must find and collect as many pieces of papers scattered throughout the room as possible. These papers contain facts and information about the horrible conditions that our earth is currently going through. Once collected, a BSSC personnel inside the exhibition will further explain the contents of the papers and visitors will also get a chance to give their own opinions on the matter.
The exhibition received lots of positive reviews from our visitors, and they also admit to have gained new knowledge about the earth’s current condition and are willing to make a change to their habits in order to help restore earth. A spokesperson from the Jakarta Earth Hour Community also admitted being impressed with the exhibition and commended the efforts put into this.
