A City in Nusantara Called Manado

Manado is a city located in the Sulawesi island in Indonesia. It is said to be the second largest city in Sulawesi after Makassar. You might think that this is just another city in Indonesia, but Manado is known for a lot of things like its beautiful ocean, bizarre foods, and a lot more. Because of this, many people from Indonesia and even tourists from different parts of the world want to travel to Manado to experience many things in this city. Before being called Manado, the city had another name which was Wenang. The name was changed because of the documents written by people in power during the Spanish occupation. The documents state that the common folk tend to refer to Wenang as Manado because the name Manado was more known. According to Professor Geraldine Manoppo-Watupongoh, the name Manado was taken from a nearby island next to Bunaken, which was Manado island. Some sources even say that Manado had another name besides Wenang.

One of the things that is famous about Manado is Bunaken Island. Bunaken island is located in the Manado bay next to islands such as Manado Tua, Siladen, and Mantihage. To reach this island, visitors can come to the Marina port in Manado which is only 10 minutes away from the town square. In the port, there are many ships that will take the visitors to Bunaken island. The price of these ships ranges from Rp900,000 to Rp2,500,000 depending on the size of the ship. After the 30 minutes boat ride the visitors will arrive on a beautiful beach with dark-white sand. Visitors often take walks on the sandy beach before taking a swim in the ocean. Lodging is available to rent for visitors at an international price. There are multiple locations to choose from the side of the island to the top of a hill.
After enjoying all the activities on the island, visitors can rent diving gear to witness the underwater view of Bunaken island which is breathtaking. The sea life includes lots of fishes, colorful coral reefs, and a lot more. The coral reefs in Bunaken are unique because the reefs protrude downwards. The deeper you go, the more beautiful the underwater scenery of this island gets.
