Traditional dance is a dance that has been passed down from generation to generation and each dance reflects the diversity in Indonesia. Today I’m going to show all of you some traditional dances from Indonesia.
- Saman Dance

Saman dance is a dance that came from Gayo, Aceh. Saman dance is usually performed to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Mohammad or any important occasion in Aceh. The movements used in Saman dance are hand and shoulder-clapping. The Saman dance was designated as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humans at the 6th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee by UNESCO.
- Serimpi Dance

Serimpi is a classic dance originating from the royal palace of Yogyakarta. Serimpi dance was first performed in the 12th century. This dance is usually performed by four women accompanied by gamelan music. Serimpi dance reflects modesty, refinement, beauty, and grace. Serimpi dance also symbolizes the four elements of the world, the elements are Grama—fire, wind, Toya—water, and earth.
Besides Saman and Serimpi, there are still lots of traditional dances in Indonesia. Each of them have their own uniqueness. We need to preserve them because it is our nation’s heritage and it reflects the diversity of our nation.
