Indonesia Independence Day Celebration

Seventy-six years ago, on August 17th, 1945; Soekarno and Moh. Hatta made the proclamation of Indonesia Independence Day. Since then, every August 17th, Indonesian people have celebrated that day as Indonesia Independence day. To celebrate this day, schools around the country held a flag ceremony followed by many contests such as makan kerupuk, tarik tambang, balap karung, and many more.

  1. Cracker-eating Contest (Makan Kerupuk)

The first contest we have here is a cracker-eating contest. The cracker-eating contest is probably one of the easiest contests because the rules are very simple. The crackers are tied to a string and the contestant must eat as fast as they can without using their hand to touch the crackers. The organizer of this event may raise the difficulty by making the contestant use a blindfold and push the string back and forth. Although it’s just a simple game, it’s really fun! (you can get a free snack by joining this cracker-eating contest hehe).

  1. Tug of War (Tarik Tambang)

The tug of war is basically just a team tag battle and a battle of strength. You and your teammate need both strength and cooperation if you want to win this game. The main goal of both of the teams is dragging each other to a certain distance by pulling the rope in the opposite direction (unlike cracker-eating contests, tug of war has an injury risk, so be careful if you want to play this game).

  1. Sack Race (Balap Karung)

The last but not least, the other contest that we have here is the sack race. The player will place both of their legs inside a sack and they need to hop their way through the finish line. The first person to reach the finish line is the winner. Be careful because you may fall during the race, but I mean, that’s where the fun is, right? (hehehe)
