Pandemic is really an obstacle for our activity, also for our Independence Day. Before the pandemic, we used to celebrate it with a ceremony followed by many contests like kerupuk eating contest, sack race contest, and so on. But as the pandemic occurs, now we only celebrate it online with no common contest as what we always do in the years behind. Thus, now we have to think about what kind of competition/contest that we can make or participate in. So, let’s take a look at our Independence day activity during the pandemic.

Our Independence Day was held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the celebration like drumband or carnival is removed due to the condition and health protocol to not make a crowd. The Merdeka Palace area which is usually filled with important guests with various regional costumes, representatives of friendly countries, and choir groups seems diminished. Now all the ceremony is allocated to ZOOM and YouTube, but all the guests are using traditional clothes from each region as a symbol of “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” which means different but still as one.

During the pandemic, we are not allowed to contact each other physically. Thus, we can participate in a designing poster competition to celebrate our Independence Day. This kind of competition is not only to enliven the independence day celebration, but also to practice your creativity by making a poster design. Even if you are not winning the competition, you can learn how to make a proper design for a poster and gain more experience for your future.

Another option to celebrate Independence Day is to make a competition with booming applications/games, such as making a video using TikTok or Minecraft. Young people nowadays prefer to express their creativity through social media applications and games. Therefore, applications and games are one way to attract young people to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day.

The last one is about music. These days, there are more people who are interested in music, so we can make or participate in music competitions on Independence Day. Those who can play music or great at composing music can join this competition
In conclusion, due to this pandemic, all our activities have become obstructed. Especially about our Independence Day, now we are celebrating it in a different way by using technology. Just like the ceremony that we used to do in a field, this year we do it in ZOOM or YouTube. The event is also not as interactive as before. But, we can still enliven it by participating in the event that is held on Independence Day.
