BSSC Social “Distancing” Movement “A Cup of Cares”

BSSC SDM or BSSC Social “Distancing” Movement was held on May 28th, 2021 to June 6th, 2021 themed “A Cup of Cares”. This event was held in order to add insight and develop creativity for all children of Muhammadiyah Pagesangan Surabaya Orphanage. This event also aimed to instill a sense of love and respect for our environment by learning to recycle used goods such as cardboard. We also wanted to increase sympathy and empathy for others through this event. In addition, this event will help BSSC Social Division members to improve their skills and also gain experience in creating an event. This event included online education and online donation.

To realize the purpose of this event, on the first day we invited Kartika Swarnacitra from Ehipassiko Foundation to deliver the material about “caring for others”. Not only inviting speakers, but we also held an ice-breaking session with the orphanage’s children and prepared a film “Wall-E” to be watched together with all the children, which is related to our theme, “A Cup of Cares”.

On day 2, we also invited Mrs. Nahdya Maulina as a speaker from the Komunitas Pilah Sampah. In this session, she delivered useful material about “waste management” for Junior High School to Senior High School students, while the children who were still in elementary school were moved into a breakout room and were given the same material but with a different method. The minor students learned about “waste management” by watching a video that was also explained later by the committee from BSSC. Same as the first day, we also had an ice breaking session and continued to watch the “Wall-E” movie. On this day, we held a quiz time where participants who could answer the questions related to the material would be given snacks or souvenirs prepared by the committee.

The third day was different from the first and second day, because we held an ice breaking session, a discussion session about the Wall-E film, and then continued with a workshop and study case activity. The workshops were followed by children who are still in elementary to junior high school levels, while the study case sessions were made to be joined by high school students in a breakout room. After the workshop and study case session, we also held a quiz time. During the quiz time, the participants were very enthusiastic because prizes were waiting for them if they answered correctly. The purpose of the quiz is to review their understanding about the “Wall-E” film and recall the knowledge that has been given by speakers on day 1 and day 2. At the end of this event, there was a group photo session to commemorate this precious event. Overall, the online education that was held in 3 days was really fun and memorable to us all. The online donation also ran well and the accumulated fund has been given to Muhammadiyah Pagesangan Surabaya Orphanage.
