Mandarin Language Class

BSSC re-opened the annual event of the Culture Division, Mandarin Language Class. This year, Mandarin Language Class is attended by 15 students who want to learn Mandarin. The Mandarin language itself has a high level of difficulty. Therefore Mandarin Language Class starts from the basics so that beginners who have the spirit to learn Mandarin can enjoy Mandarin Language Class well. Mandarin Language Class consists of four meetings, including Hang Out Together (HOT). It started on 18 March 2021 from 5 PM until 7 PM This class is showered with a lot of enthusiasm from the students.

This class is taught by Loy Chanreaksmey, who is a student at BINUS University from Cambodia. She is active in the Mandarin language. Loy Chanreaksmey herself has taught Mandarin Language Class in the previous presidency. She decided to be our teacher again this year with more enthusiasm due to the high excitement shown by the students. Loy Chanreaksmey taught from the basic things in speaking Mandarin language such as shēngmǔ (consonant), yùnmǔ (vocal), and shēngdiào (tone) on the first day. For the next two meetings, Loy Chanreaksmey also taught how to introduce ourselves in Mandarin, basic conversations, numbers, colors, time, days, and months. She also gave a little homework to the students to practice their Mandarin language skills. In the last meeting, we played Kahoot! and watched a short Chinese movie titled “Love The Way You Are”. While we were watching, Loy Chanreaksmey also gave some new vocabulary from the movie for us to use in daily conversations.

At the end of the class, the students and the teacher took a picture together virtually through Google Meet and bid their farewell. With that, we successfully ended Mandarin Language Class this year.
