The Importance of Eating Vegetables

Vegetables are important for us because vegetables contain a lot of mineral and vitamins, which our bodies need in order to function well. For example, iron helps convert food to energy, vitamin C is needed for our growth, and calcium keeps our bones and teeth strong. If you don’t make eating vegetables the norm, it can be lead to various consequences such as:

  • Weight gain and malnutrition

 

Eating too much high calorie foods are bad if you don’t balance it out by eating vegetables. Animal-based foods and snack will increase your body weight.

 

  • Digestive problems

 

Vegetables are major sources of dietary fiber, the food element that affects your digestive system. Low fiber intake may lead to digestion problems such as constipation and diverticular diseases.

 

  • Blood pressure may rise

 

Eating vegetables helps stabilize your blood pressure. Why? Because vegetables are rich in nutrients such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium. It helps reduce your sodium intake, thereby lowering blood pressure.

 

  • Could be headed for depression

 

People who eat vegetables are less prone to developing depression. Deficiencies in nutrients such as pantothenic acid and vitamin B6 could be the cause of depression, and vegetables alleviate that.

 

As you can see, Vegetables are a super important part of healthy eating and provide a source for many nutrients, including potassium, fiber, folate (folic acid) and assorted vitamins. So, let’s start eating vegetables in every dish!
