Paper has always been an integral part of our life. For some of us, we use it every day for jotting down notes, schedules, printing documents, etc.
Every year in Australia, the average office worker uses about 10,000 sheets of A4 paper, with 50% of these sheets going straight into the bin.
This over-use of paper has a huge impact on a company’s carbon footprint – not just from chopping down trees to make the paper, but also on the fossil fuel power used for printing, and the chemicals involved, too.
Going paperless is one of the many ways we can do to save our planet. It doesn’t mean we cannot use paper, we just have to minimize its use. The technology we have right now will help us to reduce the need for paper. Every mobile phone nowadays provided various application which enable us to do this.
There are several little things we can do to go paperless, such as…
- Use digital note-taking application – These days, there are a lot of application that enables you to do this, such as One Note, Evernote, Memos, etc. Using this will not only increase your productivity, it will also save paper.
- Replace paper towels with cloth towels – You can change the paper towels you usually use in kitchen with cloth towels.
- Stop printing everything – You have your mobile phone everywhere you go, do you really need that paper to be printed out?
And a lot more.
All those things seems small, but imagine if all of us do it, our paper usage would probably be halved. Remember, these little things add up, and it could be the game changer for saving our earth.
