BSSC Earth Hour 2018: “Our Earth, Our Future”

This year’s BSSC Earth Hour theme was “Our Earth, Our Future”. It was held by BINUS Square Student Committee (BSSC) for 5 days on March 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th 2018. This event was divided into 3 main part: Campaign, Pre-Event, and Main Event. Each day has a different activity. One of the unique things of this event was the act for saving energy by turning off the light for an hour while the main event goes on. Besides the 3 main parts of event, there were also a fundraising campaign through www.kitabisa.com or be done on the spot through the promotion stands.

Earth Hour Campaign was held for 2 days long on the 18th and 25th of March at 4 orphanages around Jakarta which were Panti Sosial Bina Grahita, Panti Asuhan Desa Putera, Panti Asuhan Vincentius Puteri and RPTRA Maya Asri 13. We cleaned the orphanage, gave unique, memorable workshops, and donated money from the kitabisa campaign. Through those activities, we had hoped that it would spread good in these days and age.

The pre-event of Earth Hour was held for 2 days long on the 22nd and 23rd of March at BINUS Square. There were Talent Show Competition, Food Bazaar, Performances, Glow in the Dark Fair, Photography Show, Photography Workshop, and a seminar by WWF specially organized at BINUS Anggrek.

The main event of BSSC Earth Hour was held at BINUS Square South Parking Area with a festival-like environment. Bersama Dalam Musik and PARAMABIRA performed there to enliven the venue and act like the opening performance for our guest star, NYD Project! Besides the awesome performances, there were also food stands that sells different kinds of food and beverages. There were Hiroji, Chick n’ Roll, Yoshinoya, Nge-teh, Kolary, and Dutch Kitchen. There were also non-food stands that sells beauty cosmetics and services for English learning, they were Catrice, Cottage, English First (EF), and a special stall from BSSC, the BSSC Merchandise Stall. At the peak of the event, the lights around BINUS Square was turned off and while the lights are off, the audience was entertained by eye-catching performances. The main event was closed by the Flash mob dance by the event committee. 1/3 of the surplus from this event was given to WWF as a tribute to the environment. Hopefully, from BSSC Earth Hour could be the beginning for a better earth. “Our Earth, Our Future”.
