Communicating is one of the most important thing in a human’s life as a social being. Every day, every time and everywhere we need to send and receive information so we can understand what is happening around us. A very basic question of this is “How do we communicate?” as we all already know; the answer is LANGUAGE. But, in every continent and every country, people speaks different language, while in the other hand you want every person you communicate with can understand what you said. The lack of ability to be able to communicate in another language could be crucial, especially if you are in a working environment where you have to speak out for your ideas. So, one thing we surely can do to avoid such issue is to learn foreign language, maybe English, because it is one of the most widely used language.

In some people’s mind, they find themselves difficult to learn what is not from their own daily environment. In this case, it is foreign language. Most people that tried to learn foreign language had gave up or stop trying altogether. We found some solutions that we believe can help you learn foreign language.

  1. RECOGNIZE YOUR MOTIVE

Try to ask yourself “Why should I learn this language?” or “How did I get myself into this process?” Such question will bring you back to your own purpose of learning a foreign language in the first place. When you yourself has a strong foundation, you’ll be much more consistent on learning. If you are a student that have a necessity of language learning for your academic goals, try to find yourself a credible mentor that are able to guide you. Making a private session with your campus lecturer/ school teacher is not a bad idea. Someone that you can ask would be very helpful.

Some people get their drive in language learning from hobbies or casual activities such as reading comics, playing video games, or watching foreign TV shows. In that scenario, people would enjoy their time learning, but they won’t be able to actually be an expert at it. Because they would only learn based on what they hear/read. If you find yourself in this position, you need to dig more information than what you heard/read from your hobbies. For example, when you found a new vocabulary, you should find its usage grammatically.

  1. EXPAND YOUR REFERENCES

You may learn in a lecture session or by watching some movies. But you need other supporting media to sustain your learning process. You can read novels to add more vocabulary or write essays to better your grammar. Those type of things will help you even more in language mastery.

  1. THE RIGHT LEARNING PROCESS

First, you must to master the vocabulary. Because it would be very useful to make your conversation/text more comprehensive and people will understand more of what you say in daily a conversation even if you do not have a proper grammar. You would not be able to say anything in your mind if you do not know what the word is, right?

Then, you must learn how to construct proper sentences. Grammar consists of Phonology (Pronouncing), syntax (The behaviour of sentence), semantics (Understanding the context), morphology (Arranging words in tenses) and pragmatics (The meaning of word). A proper grammar would make people easily understand what you’re trying to bring to the conversation/text.

  1. MAINTAINANCE

A knife would be blunt if you don’t sharpen it. So are using a new language. Keep using the new language in your daily routines for a long time. Force yourself to be in a condition or environment that would keep you close to that language, such as reading daily news, watching interesting movies with subtitles and much more.
