On 21 June 2023, Garuda Indonesia received a major, prestigious award in honor of their airline cabin crew quality. Garuda Indonesia received the 2023’s SkyTrax’s (a British independent aviation rater) World Airline Awards’ World’s Best Airline Cabin Crew award. This was not the first time they received the same or any similar award. The award marks the astounding sixth time that the prestige was achieved by the airline, after claiming the title for five consecutive years from 2014-2018. Impressively, yet another record was set, with Garuda Indonesia being the only airline company to take home the award six times. Irfan Setiaputra, Garuda Indonesia’s president, wrote a statement on June 21 regarding the “secret” of their success, which is “prioritizing Indonesian hospitality culture which we also represent through the cabin crew service philosophy in all lines of flight services.” He then added that the noble philosophy of “You Matter” helped Garuda Indonesia to strive with their services and care for the passengers. About Cabin Crews

First off, what is a cabin crew? The cabin crew is a group of flight attendants that plays an important role in ensuring the passengers’ and fellows’ safety and well-being 35,000 feet above the ground. Their role is very crucial, as airlines are obligated to train and prepare them to deal with such a risky job, preparing them for the basics as well as the worst. Cabin crews have a flexible yet mentally and physically demanding job where teamwork and the need to have a good sense of humor, self-motivation, and organizational skills are demanded to ensure the smoothness of the situation. Cabin crews are also the airline’s brand ambassadors, where their customer service skills are challenged to maintain the passenger’s satisfaction. The role of cabin crews could go further into technical supervision and ensurement, starting from the checking of procedures, assisting passengers, reporting the condition of flight items, doing cabin checks, and ensuring passengers’ safety during turbulences. To become a cabin crew, it isn’t all about the enjoyment of being on flights and staying in luxury hotels, as cabin crews must show willpower, persistence, and determination in keeping passengers safe. 

Qualities of a Perfect Cabin Crew

Now, what makes a great cabin crew? Firstly, having the passion to help and keep others safe is important. Secondly, professionalism that involves effective communication, teamwork, and a continuous learning mindset. Don’t forget about punctuality. Thirdly, flexibility, adaptability, empathy, and excellence are indispensable. Finally, strong team spirit and communication skills are essential to work properly and to guarantee the passengers’ safety properly. Demonstrating these attributes distinguishes candidates as potential exceptional flight attendants.

The airline’s success is attributed to its “You Matter” philosophy, hospitality, commitment, and competence.
