THE 2024 BNEC ENGLISH LEARNING FORUM

In the current era, there are many challenges and opportunities that we must take advantage of and master, especially soft skills like public speaking. Public speaking is the art of verbally communicating in front of an audience to convey messages, ideas, concepts, and opinions. Practicing and understanding this art can make us more confident in everything we do.

Understanding and practicing public speaking skills provides us with many insights and knowledge. It helps us become more creative in developing ideas, opinions, and hones our critical thinking skills, as it also exercises the brain and improves memory retention. The English Learning Forum is a workshop activity that includes sessions and materials provided by speakers so participants can gain knowledge. 

This year, the event also featured a game session through Kahoot to refresh participants’ minds, especially those who may have had classes or other activities beforehand. The purpose of this event was to understand effective communication methods and to express opinions in a way that is respectful and does not offend others. There was also an engaging discussion session where each group was assigned a specific theme from which they must choose one to develop. This practice sharpened their critical thinking and helped them structure their words to present their findings, building their confidence in expressing opinions and speaking in public. This activity was one of the main components essential to the event’s success.

Although many participants were shy, they made a strong effort to share their discussion results and used appropriate language when presenting their chosen themes. The activity went very well, and the speaker was pleased with how they developed the topics and presented them. At the end of the event, we had a group photo for a documentation session.
