ISF Mini Tourney 2024
BINUS University and BINUS English Club is thrilled to announce that two of its most promising students, Mauritius Takhta Kebijaksanaan, from the International Relations Major, and Phoebe, from the Data Science Major, will proudly represent the university at the highly anticipated ISF Mini Tourney 2024. This tournament, taking place on November 3rd, 2024 at St. Bellarminus School in Jakarta, is set to be an intense competition, drawing in some of the best and brightest chess players from the region. With seven rounds of competition, the tournament provides a challenging platform for players to demonstrate not only their technical prowess but also their mental stamina and strategic foresight. The event has two competitive categories: the Master division, for players with an ISF rating above 1200, and the Intermediate division, for those with an ISF rating of 1200 or below. In total, only 20 spots are available across both divisions, making this a high-stakes tournament for each participant involved.
Representing BINUS at such an elite event is both an honor and a significant opportunity for Mauritius and Phoebe, who have demonstrated impressive skill, dedication, and passion for the game of chess. Mauritius, a student of International Relations, brings a unique blend of strategic thinking and an analytical mind to the game. His expertise in understanding global strategies and international dynamics likely gives him a distinctive edge, as he approaches each game with calculated diplomacy and strategic foresight—qualities that align seamlessly with the demands of competitive chess. Meanwhile, Phoebe, a Data Science major, approaches each chess move with a rigor and precision that reflects her analytical mindset. Her background in data science equips her with the skills to assess probabilities, predict patterns, and make data-driven decisions—all critical factors when trying to outmaneuver an opponent in chess. Together, Mauritius and Phoebe embody the core strengths of BINUS University: intellectual rigor, strategic insight, and a commitment to excellence.
The ISF Mini Tourney is not just about competition; it is also a valuable opportunity for students like Mauritius and Phoebe to engage with a diverse community of fellow chess enthusiasts, fostering connections and learning experiences that extend beyond the game. The tournament’s location, St. Bellarminus School, serves as an ideal venue for this gathering, bringing together participants in a collaborative spirit while also challenging them to perform at their peak. Each participant, including our representatives from BINUS, has paid a registration fee of IDR 50,000, which further underscores their dedication to competing at a high level in this officially recognized tournament. BINUS University could not be prouder of the commitment these two students have shown in preparing for this competition. As they step into this challenging arena, they carry the full support of their university and fellow students, who are eager to see them succeed and gain invaluable experience in a high-caliber environment.
The ISF Mini Tourney 2024 promises to be a memorable event, and BINUS University is excited to witness Mauritius and Phoebe take their place among Jakarta’s finest young chess players. Their participation is a testament to their hard work, discipline, and strategic mindset, and we have no doubt they will showcase their best skills and represent the university with pride.
