BNEC’s TOEFL Test 2021 with Englishvit

Students are probably familiar with the test called TOEFL. TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language, it is a standardized test to measure someone’s skill in the English language. The result of the TOEFL test is now widely used as proof for applying to a university or school especially in English-speaking countries like the United States. To facilitate many people, including Binusian to examine their English skills in the TOEFL test, BNEC Alam Sutera held a TOEFL test for Binusian and non-Binusian, supported by the Englishvit course. Even though we are still in a pandemic situation, BNEC pulled off this event successfully by conducting the event online.

The test was held for two days in a row, divided into two sessions on the 10th and 11th of April 2021. The rundown of both days was the same, as shared by the secretary and treasurer of this TOEFL test, Valencia Leonardy. The session started from filling attendance of the participants, explaining the regulations while the participants enter the web test, assigning breakout rooms, and then starting the test. The test consisted of reading comprehension, structure and written expression, and listening comprehension sections. The session of the day ended with a briefing about the test assessment, as well as certificates retrieval by the participants.

But of course, this event would not go as smoothly as it was without careful preparation by the staff. As stated by the two staff members, Edwin Wijaya and Violin Rusli, the preparation was conducted before the test, including searching for an institution that provides an online TOEFL test, creating the rundown and PowerPoints, also practicing the real test situation by creating a simulation between the staff. Staff meetings were also conducted three times, added by the project manager, Angel Chan. She also shared that there were three divisions in this event, which were the marketing, event, and IT division. The project manager manages all divisions and the Secretary doubled as Treasurer who took care of the documents needed for the event.

The staff from the marketing division, Nadhif Barceli, mentioned that the event has a media partner, which is Wander Voice, that helps the promotion of the event on social media. And as a result of the well-done promotion, the number of participants has exceeded the target. The total number of participants was 69 people, including 52 Binusian and 17 non-Binusian, as revealed by Vincent Febrien and Azzel Aristo, staff from the event division.

For overall appraisal, some of the staff of this TOEFL test shared their thoughts and perspectives. Yonathan Chandra, from the IT division, rated that this event went pretty well, and the communication process was also smooth. While Moreno Atthalanda, from the marketing division, stated that this event went well, even though there were some problems, all the staff could overcome those problems together. Similar to Moreno, Daniel from the marketing division, Garreth Jeffry from the event division, and Fitzhenri Hilmy from the marketing division also expressed the same thoughts. The staff also shared what they got from this event, such as new experiences, teamwork, hospitality skill, connection, and problem-solving skill. In the end, the benefits of this event are not only felt by the participants but also the staff as well.
