COLLEGE VS HIGH SCHOOL

    When you think about college life, what comes first to your mind? Do you think of more assignments or textbooks? The transition from high school to  college may be surprising as there are so many differences. By knowing what to expect during college, you will have more preparations than the students going in cluelessly. Here are the differences to expect from the transition from high school to college.

  1. More Free Time

    Time spent on  college per week is shorter than high school. If you’re lucky, you might have several days off in a week. Moreover, you could have classes at different times each day, depending on the course that you took. College life gives you more free time to rest, explore new things, and hang out with your friends. There is no set lunchtime in college either, so you can eat your lunch whenever you have a break. Even though the lecturers rarely monitor class attendance in college, you may suffer consequences that come in your grading time if you do not attend and miss important lectures.

  1. Makes You More Disciplined

   Class schedules are more flexible in college; therefore you need to enhance your time management skills. You need to be proactive because learning will be more independent in college. Your lecturers will expect you to initiate contact if you need help, and some of them won’t inform you of the material for the next day. So, you need to list down and keep track on your assignments and projects.

  1. Explore Your Creativity

   In high school, assignments are all about meeting expectations and answering questions in a predetermined way. Exam and homework are mainly focused on memorizing  textbooks. But in universities, you will usually focus on doing analysis and creating a creative and distinctive work. This opens a big opportunity for you to think in a more creative way. Since lecturer also gives their grades by not just determining the answer right or wrong, but by also considering the creativity and the uniqueness of the answer.

  1. More Extracurricular Activities

   In college, there are so many clubs or organizations to join that may help you to discover,  improve, and do what you love.  These extracurricular activities include a new level of involvement. Some of the activities  you can join are:

– English club to increase English speaking and writing skills;

– Sports club (football,  badminton, basketball club, etc.) to practice sports skills;

– Social communities volunteer, and so on.

You can join clubs or organizations you are interested in and passionate about to get experiences that may help you with your future job.

  1. You can Build Your Social Life

   College helps you  to make new friends and connections because in college you will be surrounded by people with different backgrounds, disciplines, and mindsets. College challenges you to build and improve your social life by meeting with new people and learning new things.  It will help you to form a good character.

   Those are some differences that make college more enjoyable than high school. Don’t worry about entering college life, because everything you don’t know is something you can learn. Stay motivated!
