5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD REDUCE YOUR SCREEN TIME

Having our hands on our phone, tablet, or maybe laptop has always been a fun thing to do. We can watch movies, play games, or maybe just scroll through our social media page. But, there’s a downside to those activities that we do with our gadgets.

We have already compiled several reasons why we should reduce our screen time:

It can Lead to a Life-Threatening Disease

Screen time isn’t really something that some of us would actually pay attention to. But an extreme amount of screen time can lead to life-threatening diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and sleep problems. Lack of physical activities is the root of these problems that are usually found in the younger generation. Blue lights that our gadgets emit can block the melatonin that makes us feel sleepy, and cause the sleep problem we’re facing.

Cause Depression and Anxiety

Too much screen time does have a big impact on our mental health. Seeing what others do makes us compare ourselves and leave negativity on us. This can lead to suicidal behavior and lower our ability to control the emotions that we have. Having our hands more on social media and less socializing with our friends or colleagues makes us feel lonely a lot more.

Neck, Shoulder, and Back Pain

When we play with our gadgets, we don’t have a good posture. Poor posture that we have will put pressure on our body. Too much pressure will lead to chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain. The long-term effect of this can also be scoliosis.

Root to Myopia

Being too close to the screen for a long time can worsen our eyesight. Our excessive use of gadgets that we regularly use, will lead us to a vision impairment. Nowadays, we often use our gadgets for learning equipment and we can see the effects that it brings to the children because it weakens their sight.

Less Social Interaction

Because we spent most of our time on our gadgets, playing games, and scrolling through social media. We feel the need to see others anymore. Many of us like to spend our time just lying in our bed and not going out of our room. Such habits make it difficult for us to face the public and leave uneasiness when we need to interact with others.

Now that we know the downside of excessive screen time, don’t forget to limit it to keep us physically and mentally healthy.
