THE FIVE TIGERS GENERALS

Have you ever heard of The Five Tiger Generals? If you haven’t, well, let me take you on this journey back to 214 AD. There’s this kingdom called Shu in the Southern West of China that captured the land of ChengDu. The kingdom was ruled by Liu Bei, who was once a powerful warlord who was in exile to escape CaoCao. Liu Bei named the five greatest generals on Shu. These five generals had a big impact on the era of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Each general can single-handedly hold off 500 enemies.

The Five Tiger Generals consisted of Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, Huang Zhong. Each general has their own history which makes them the greatest generals of Shu. Guan Yu was a long-time devoted follower and blood-brother of Liu Bei, killer of Yan Liang and Wen Chou. Guan Yu was head of the Tiger Generals. Yan Liang and Wen Chou were the infamous Generals who served under the warlord Yuan Shao. These two Generals were feared by hundreds of troops. Zhang Fei was a long-time follower and blood-brother of Liu Bei, repelled the armies of Cao Cao at a stand-off at Changban Bridge. Zhang Fei held off thousands of troops that were ready to cross the bridge. To let their master escape from CaoCao. Zhao Yun was a former officer of Gongsun Zan and a savior of Liu Shan. From the same location in Changban, while Zhang Fei held off thousands of troops at the bridge Zhao Yun was informed that Liu Bei’s son Liu Shan was captured by CaoCao with the rest of his family. Zhao Yun rode back towards the destination and fought off thousands of troops, then Liu Bei’s family was saved. His heroic action was recognized. Ma Chao was the son of Ma Teng, the enemy of Cao Cao and head warrior of an esteemed family. Ma Chao had a friend called Pang De and Han Sui. Both these men defected to Wei at the Battle of Tong Gate. Wei was a kingdom ruled by CaoCao. Ma Chao then fled and survived that attack. Ma Chao took part in Liu Bei’s campaign and took him under his wings. Huang Zhong was a former officer of Liu Biao then Liu Bei, the victor over Xiahou Yuan. Xiahou Yuan was a cousin to CaoCao and a brother to Xiahou Dun, who was also a cousin to CaoCao. Xiahou Yuan was a great general but was defeated by Huang Zhong’s men in the battle of Hanzhong.
