From Local to Global with BINUS University’s DTU Monsoons 2024 Win

In an inspiring display of talent and tenacity, BINUS University has once again proven its excellence in the debate arena, marking a significant milestone with a resounding victory at the DTU Monsoons 2024. Over the past four months, BINUS debaters have not only competed but excelled in various prestigious national competitions, including ALSA UI, NUDC, E-Sanctuary, and Open Lounge 2024. However, this victory at DTU Monsoons 2024 stands as a testament to BINUS University’s growing influence on the international stage, setting the stage for the upcoming Asian British Parliamentary (ABP) Championships in October.

The DTU Monsoons 2024, held virtually via Zoom and Discord on August 17–18, was a fierce battleground, filled with some of the most challenging competitors from around the world. Despite the stiff competition, BINUS University sent forth two formidable teams—BINUS A and BINUS B, each comprising two skilled speakers and supported by an independent judge.

  • Team BINUS B: Bobby Ongkojoyo & Rachel Chen

Across two intense days, these individuals represented BINUS University with determination, resilience, and exceptional debate skills, fighting for the honor and glory of their university. 

After a grueling series of debates, BINUS A emerged triumphant, securing the 5th place, while BINUS B earned a commendable 7th place in the Open Breaking Teams category. However, the accolades did not stop there. Rachel Chen’s outstanding performance earned her the title of 1st Best Novice Speaker and 9th Best Speaker overall, while Jennifer Marcellyn Cen claimed the title of 3rd Best Novice Speaker. These victories have not only brought immense pride to the university but have also highlighted the exceptional talent and hard work of BINUS University’s debaters.
