BINUS University Shines at E-Sanctuary 2024: A Stellar Display of Debate Prowess

On the weekend of July 13–14, 2024, the Politeknik Negeri Batam English Club successfully hosted E-Sanctuary 2024, a prestigious debating competition held at a national level. This event attracted varsity-level debaters from across Indonesia, providing them with a platform to hone their skills in a supportive and competitive environment. Held online, E-Sanctuary 2024 adhered to the British Parliamentary format, offering participants an invaluable opportunity to familiarize themselves with this globally recognized debating style. This format enhances debaters’ adaptability and ensures they are well-prepared for international competitions. The event’s primary objective was to serve as a training ground and safe haven for debaters, fostering their growth and development in the art of debate.

Among the many teams that competed, the BINUS Debate Team showcased remarkable talent and determination. The team comprised Jennifer Marcellyn Cen from BINUS Alam Sutera and Nico Chainando from BINUS Kemanggisan. Their performance throughout the competition was impressive and noteworthy.

In the first round, the BINUS Debate Team excelled, securing the 1st position. However, the competition grew increasingly challenging in the subsequent rounds. In the second round, they placed 3rd, and in the third round, they again finished in 3rd place. Despite their valiant efforts, the team faced a setback in the quarterfinals, where they were unfortunately eliminated from the competition.

Despite the quarterfinal exit, the BINUS Debate Team’s overall performance was commendable. They achieved a final rank of 16th out of 37 teams, demonstrating their capabilities and potential in the national debate arena.

E-Sanctuary 2024 not only highlighted the competitive spirit and skill of debaters across Indonesia but also reinforced the significance of such platforms in nurturing and developing debating talent. The event’s success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the organizers, participants, and supporters, all of whom contributed to a memorable and enriching experience.

As the E-Sanctuary National Debate Competition continues to grow, it remains committed to its mission of providing a conducive environment for debaters to thrive, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and confidence to excel on both national and international stages.
