FIVE PROFESSIONS WHERE ENGLISH SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL
Studying a foreign language, especially English, and applying it in your current or future profession may be challenging at first. The challenges usually encountered are feelings of embarrassment, lack of confidence, and fear of being wrong. But don’t worry, it only felt for the first time, then you will get used to it.
English skills are essential in some professions because sometimes we are required to communicate with colleagues or clients in our profession. If our colleagues or clients are foreigners and our English skills are lacking, then we will be constrained in delivering the work plans that have been prepared, and of course, it will be challenging to expand connections.
So here are some professions where English skills are essential, so you can prepare as best you can when taking one of the professions below.
- Diplomat
Being a representative of the government in a country in order of diplomatic activities is a job carried out by a diplomat. Of course, as a diplomat, you will meet many important people from various countries and even multiple parts of the world. Thus, you will communicate with them to maintain relations between countries, so this profession requires you to learn English formally and informally to communicate fluently.
- Interpreter or Translator
The task of this profession is to translate a foreign language into another language either orally or in writing. Therefore, this profession requires good knowledge of grammar. Besides that, you must understand the differences in people’s pronunciation from various countries. So actually, not only English, but the language you are engaged in this profession, you must be able to learn it well.
- Tour Guide
This profession is exciting because you will interact a lot with tourists. With good English skills, you can communicate and get acquainted with foreign tourists you meet, and they can get good information about tourist attractions that are being visited.
- Steward or Stewardess
Good English skills are needed in this profession because apart from being required to be nimble, whenever you meet passengers from other countries, you must be able to communicate with them, especially in an emergency situation.
- Hotel Manager
This profession requires English and other languages with an upper-intermediate level. Good pronunciation and speech will help you distinguish the demands of people with different accents and levels of articulation. In addition, a hotel manager who can speak many languages is rarely replaced or downsized. However, you need a hotel management certificate and spend several years in three or four-star hotels to get enough experience.
