HOW TO START AN ESSAY
Essay is a writing that discusses a problem and has the author’s point of view. Making an essay is not an easy thing, because even the most difficult step to make an essay is the first step, which is to determine what topic will be discussed to write later. Writing essays is also not just writing an original one, but writing something valuable and can attract the attention of readers.
Writing an essay is not the same as writing a book, poetry, or even writing a song. Writing an essay is writing something that is important, while adding new insights, and adding ways to apply the language we write and talk about every day.
There are so many ways to write an essay, but creating an interesting essay is not easy. Therefore, here are some tips to write it.
- Share a shocking or amusing fact
Sharing surprising and funny facts will indeed make the reader curious and read what you wrote. Writing facts that are currently trending will certainly make readers want to know what your essay contains. This method is an effective way to determine the topic and make the reader curious.
- Ask a question
Definitely make questions. The function of making this question is so that the reader feels interaction with the author. The reader will feel that the essay you write is not passive. If you write an essay about food, an example of a question could be something like “How often do you buy food online?”. With questions like that, the readers will answer in their heart and feel interaction that makes the readers want to continue reading the contents of the essay.
- Dramatize a scene
Dramatizing an essay is also very important, or adding experiences that are usually experienced by the reader or spice to dramatization. For example, “Imagine if you were shopping in a beautiful store, you would definitely feel comfortable and not want to leave the store.” Dramatizing a scene makes the reader feel what the author feels.
- Kick it off with a quote
Adding quotes is also important, because with a quote, people will be motivated and feel inspired by reading the essay you write. An example of a quote is “You did your best today.” Then the reader who reads the essay will feel that they have done their best after struggling that day. This affects the reader’s emotions indirectly.
- State the thesis of your essay directly
A straightforward introduction that focuses on what you are going to write is very important. Many readers will immediately read your introduction and this determines whether the reader will continue reading or not. Therefore, an introduction that is straight to the point will help your essay attract the reader’s eye.
Above are tips for writing an essay. Don’t forget to try and make an essay that grabs the reader’s attention!
