FOODS THAT LOOKED WEIRD BUT ACTUALLY DELICIOUS!

Have you ever looked at the most weird dish? But have you actually tasted it? Welp, don’t judge the book by its cover folks! Here we have several dishes from Indonesia that look weird but actually have great tastes. There are Nasi Kentut, Kerupuk Melarat, Ketela Bajingan, Kue Dollar, Kuku Macan, Sate Kere, and Endog Bulus. Kentut in Indonesia means fart, it sounds weird but it has a good meaning. So Nasi Kentut is from Medan and made from Kentut leaves, the leaves smell is not that great therefore its called Kentut. Usually this rice is served with Pepes fish, chicken rolls, tofu and tempeh. Kerupuk Melarat is from Cirebon. These crackers are called melarat because they are not fried in oil, but are cooked with sand that has been cleaned first.

Ketela Bajingan is a food in the form of cassava cooked with Javanese sugar and coconut milk, then served with a thick sweet sauce. Because it is served whole without cutting it first, this food looks similar to boiled squid, so it is called cassava bajingan. Bajingan is a person who holds control of cows in a caravan. Kue Dollar is not a money cake, but its form is almost like a coin, therefore named dollar. In the past there was only palm sugar flavor, but now it has a variety of flavors. Like the taste of ginger, sesame, and cheese. Kuku Macan is from Balikpapan, mackerel fish crackers. The shape is similar to a pointed fingernail, because it’s a bit big and named Kuku Macan. Sate Kere, Kere in Javanese means destitute or poor. This satay is made from gambus tempeh, which is tempeh made from tofu dregs and still equipped with peanut sauce like satay in general. Endog Bulus is a cake that comes from Magelang and is the size of a turtle egg. The skin is a bit hard and has sweet brown sugar in it.
