HOW TO STAY HEALTHY DURING QUARANTINE

We all know that the world is competing against COVID-19. At this time, many of us have a new routine because of our inability to do normal activities outside. We are all practicing social distancing,  and everyone is trying to figure out how to make the best out of this temporary new way of life. Health isn’t about one specific behavior, but rather a series of practices that adds up to better mental and physical well-being. Given the circumstances of the world, here are some suggestions or tricks that might be useful to you!

1. Eat healthy and balanced diet

There is no specific food to prevent COVID-19. Nevertheless, eating a well-balanced diet, with plenty of fruits and vegetables is the best way to boost our immune system and get the nutrients that we need for a healthy body. You can slowly change your unhealthy habits for better health. The common example for this tip is to limit foods that are high in fat, sugar, and salt and limit fast foods.

2. Keep your body hydrated

Water is essential for our body. How much water we need depends on our age, sex, and level of physical activity. Hydration doesn’t mean that we only have to drink water all the time, but one of the best ways to stay hydrated is by taking tasty and even healthy drinks like smoothies that contain fruit or vegetables.

3. Stay active at home

Physical activities are good for our body. Exercising delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. Being active can also help to relieve stress as it releases hormones into one’s body to help balance out the focus of the person. There are many ways to keep you active at home. You can set a routine for daily exercise by playing with your siblings or even cleaning the house.

4. Get enough sleep

Sleep has been proven to relieve stress, which is not only good for our mind but our body as well. A lack of quality sleep can negatively affect both our physical and mental health as well as reduce our immune system’s ability to fight off infections. There are a lot of tips on how to sleep better at night, such as reducing blue light exposure in the evening, not consuming caffeine late in the day, and etc.

You can start a healthy lifestyle with small changes each day and when you already develop a sustainable routine, add another. As you incorporate more, you’ll ultimately build a well-rounded set of habits that’ll benefit your body and mind in a variety of ways.
