The Advantages of Makeup for Mental Health
There are reasons why some people love and enjoy every moment while he/she is applying makeup. Not only to make you feel more confident, but research found that makeup can boost your mood (Stewart, 2020). According to Jane Polinski, a mental health therapist, she stated that applying makeup makes you more focused just like painting or drawing something (Polinski, 2020). In addition, when you finish your makeup, it will increase your self-esteem, confidence, positive mood, and dopamine occurs.
Another reason why makeup can increase your self-esteem and mood is that when you are touching your body it will release oxytocin (Dragomir, 2020). It is defined as the cuddle hormone that is produced in the brain, hence, every time you touch yourself, your body will feel comfortable, calm, and warm. Research from the National Science Foundation (2020) found that every day a person can have more than 12,000 thoughts and most of them are negative thoughts. However, applying makeup will give you a break and avoid those negative thoughts because you will focus on your makeup (Stewart, 2020).
