Signs That You’re Lonely

Loneliness is not defined as not having friends. People can interact with others, have many social connections, be active, but still experience loneliness. According to The Psychology Department from the University of Chicago, loneliness is the distress that you feel because of the discrepancies between your ideal social relationship and your perceived social relationship. Therefore, what are the signs of loneliness?

The first one is, you like to waste your money. A past study found that people that experience loneliness often waste their money to buy something to find out what is missing in their life (Pieters, n.d.). For example, buying a sweater just because it is cute, but you don’t even need it. Not only that, but you are also not feeling rested and easily catch a cold. According to UCLA, lonely people are more likely to get a virus.

Furthermore, people with loneliness like to waste their time watching a television series. The reason is to keep you from feeling distracted while watching the series. Hence, if you are in this situation right now, it is possible for you to feel socially isolated or lonely. Of course, there are still a lot of signs to prove that you are lonely. However, you need to be aware of the expectation of your social relationships. Keeping your social networks is not only by partying all night, but all that matters is about your relationship quality and expectation.
