Do people know about climate change?

Climate change is a long-term change in weather patterns in an area. What causes climate change? According to research by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2008, the cause of climate change, 36.6% comes from fossil fuels, 23% comes from transportation, 15.7% comes from animal husbandry and agriculture, 11.3% comes from electricity. It makes the concentration of Carbon Dioxide to increase and it makes the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius – 4.5 degrees Celsius. The impact of it were a lot such as decrease in ice mass, sea level rise and changes in weather patterns and extreme weather that can cause such as forest fires.

According to Central Bureau of Statistics in 2008, the maximum temperature of the city of DKI Jakarta reached 31.9 degrees Celsius. And according to the news in 2019, the maximum temperature reached 34 degrees Celsius. And with that we can conclude that people are not aware of climate change, because the impact has become worse. Although people already felt that the temperature in Jakarta is rising but why people haven’t overcome it? We can actually overcome it from the small things such as ride a public transportation because it can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide, change fossil fuel to electricity fuel, reducing meat consumption because not everyone knows that meat contributes to the carbon footprint. And because of that people need an knowledge about the problem of climate change.

A survey by a global community called YouGov, in 2015 people in Indonesia are still more concerned with the economy than climate change. The first step so everyone knows how bad climate change is from knowledge. With it people will understand and realize that the condition on this earth is already bad. We can start by giving lessons about current conditions to all students from elementary to college. We can also put posters in places that can be seen easily such as in the toilets, classes, elevators and other public places so people can get convinced by seeing that. So everyone both young and old can begin to resolve this problem by taking action.

In conclusion, we have to do it from now on because if we continue to postpone it will forever be unresolved. The condition of the earth will become more severe and damage to our nature will often occur. And if we take action to prevent climate change little by little, it will become a good habit to ourselves and others.
