INDEYOU: An Event to Find the Meaning of Independence

On a Saturday afternoon, 25th of September 2021, the Human Resources Division of HIMSI is back again with their monthly event. This time, they conducted an event called INDEYOU (Independence by You), with themes surrounding Indonesia’s Independence day and what it means to be independent; both as a citizen of a liberated country and how we can define our independence as a person. Though we are already a month away from August, and even if it has slipped away like a moment in time, we still want our independence day spirit to ignite! Every division from HIMSI has to send a minimum of one of its members (and two for maximum) to do a presentation about the meaning of “independence” and recite a poem with the same team.

With a total of four PICs from HR conducting the event, everything ran smoothly and without any impediment. Our MC for this day was Suryo Darundio; a sophomore student, and he was helped by Raymond Franiko, Sayyed Mohammad Lutfi Ibrahim, and Denis Kelien (junior and senior year). INDEYOU consisted of 25 participants including the judges; which consisted of our beloved lecturers: Sir Akun, Miss Mita, and Sir Comi. This event was held in Zoom and started at 15:10 PM, but we were able to come in a little before that while waiting for everyone to gather. In that waiting period, Sir Comi decided to fill the silence by singing some songs and playing his guitar. The awesome singer and musician that he is, he played a song by an Indonesian band named Float and a few other songs before we started our event.

Suryo opened the event with his usual wits and charms. He introduced the theme of the event and everyone who showed their presentation and poem, as well as the judges. After that, the event ran pretty straightforward and breezy. The presentation started with Ryo, a member from SDD, and was followed by Meita Swastika and me (Radikha Freya Anjani) from Public Relations, and so on with the other divisions. With each presentation and poem that is recited, the judges are given their turn by Suryo to give their comments and inputs. Sir Akun even gave each of the participants some thought-provoking questions about their poems! When it was the Creative Division’s turn, we also got to watch a clip from an animated movie called Battle of Surabaya, which was very fun and interactive. Everyone gave a very good presentation and recited lots of emotional, and moving poems, and then all that was left to do was for the judges to decide who would win the runner up and first winner positions.

With the help of HIMSI’s own Vice President, Clara Nathania, Suryo redirected the judges to a breakout room so they can start the selection process in peace. And in the main room, us students were just hanging around and bonding with each other. As per usual, we take turns requesting songs to be played while we talk, with HIMSI’s Secretary, Nadia Salsabila, starting it with a song by Mitski called Washing Machine Heart. This event really reflected the core values and mission of the HR Division, which is to hold internal events so a better bonding between the Troopers could be created and we definitely did! Stirred by the HR Division Coordinator, Adhitya Fajar Ramadhan who opened up a topic by asking what we think “independence” means within ourselves, which resulted in a fun discussion about independence, missing the traditional “Agustusan” competitions before the pandemic, and whose poem was our favorite. After a good 15 minutes, the judges came back with their answers!

Suryo announced the winners: Meita Swastika and me (Radikha Freya Anjani) from Public Relation Division as the runner-up winners, then Yeheskiel Alexander and Shafira Chairunnisa from Creative Division as the first winner! There was a rank system as well with Creative getting 83.5 points, PR with 79.5, Edu with 78, and SDD with 77.5. The runner up winner will receive 100k, while the first winner will receive 150k. After the winners were announced and being congratulated by everyone, we all said our thank yous and goodbyes and that was where the event ended! It was an overall success, and definitely a fun day.

This concludes it for the news, stay tuned for the next HIMSI events and stay safe, always! (P.S. Perhaps by the next event, we can see our freshmen, if everything goes well. See you in TKH!)
