“MarkTalk: Opportunities in Marketing”

On the 9th of January, marketing minds were blown as Binus International Marketing Club (BIMARC) and Asia Pacific Youth Service (APYouths) teamed up for a webinar to remember. What event you may ask? None other than “MarkTalk: Opportunities in Marketing” of course! Everybody at some point in their lives has pretty much wondered the timeless question, “what career opportunities lie ahead for me?” This question is even more apparent in the business and marketing landscape where things are constantly changing and fast-moving. This is why BIMARC and APYouths decided to provide an answer to those asking the same question.

So who was invited? As far as invitations go, BIMARC invited someone who works in a consumer goods giant to speak about the background and some of the changes that are developing in their respective industries so that listeners get a good grip on what marketing opportunities are awaiting them. Caroline Herlina. She actually graduated from Binus International as well back in 2014. The Brand Director at Procter & Gamble (P&G) started out by talking about the values of P&G and how she herself ended up working there. What started as a competition (CEO Challenge) hosted by P&G turned into eight amazing years of working with P&G, a company that shared the same values (integrity, passion, and trust) as she did. Caroline proceeded to give her perspective on corporate trends, where in 2021, most companies look for adaptability skills above all. She discussed how the pandemic changed the consumer goods industry and how companies such as P&G had to adapt to those changes in consumer behaviour. All in all, Caroline provided great insight on the Business-to-Consumer side of things and explained how we as future contributors to the business landscape could utilize this understanding in the marketing industry.

Not to less excitement, was Samantha Kwan. The Global SMB Marketing Manager at Facebook explained some of the processes that go around in a company such as Facebook and how it connects with other companies. As a result, those who participated in the webinar were well-informed on what their skills could land them in the Business-to-Business side of things. Additionally, Samantha also discussed having a growth mindset. This basically covered how having a mindset of being open to new things and accepting feedback was important to thrive in the marketing industry. As both speakers finished speaking, they were buried with questions from the young and spirited crowd in the Zoom meeting. Some asked about the challenges in social media marketing, and some asked about the opportunities that emerged from the Covid pandemic. Though some were left unanswered due to the time limit, many were pleased with what they got that day.

Overall, BIMARC has done it again in executing a webinar unlike any other. The hectic prep work is invisible beneath its seamless delivery. This is visible through the astounding amount of 1659 respondents who registered for “MarkTalk: Opportunities in Marketing”.

“During this event, our team achieved so many amazing milestones and I am very proud of everyone who has worked hard in preparing this event, especially all of my committees. Without them, our event wouldn’t have succeeded and exceeds our targets.

I hope that we can work together to bring more awesome events in the future,” Elizabeth Victoria T., Organizing Committee President.
