5 Myths about The Royal Family: DEBUNKED!
Some of you have probably read articles out there saying members of the Royal Family (British, in this case) can’t do certain things in their life. For example, it has been said that they are not allowed to wear denims! Just how true is this? Royal protocols does exist but, it is actually not as extreme as some people thought. Below, I have compiled just a few of the outrageous rules scattered around online that are in fact, false.
- Members of the Royal Family CANNOT wear jeans
This is an absolute myth. They absolutely CAN wear jeans. This has been proven multiple times by how The Duchess of Cambridge a.k.a Kate Middleton, show up on her royal engagements wearing business casual attire. She sometimes combine her jeans with blouse and blazer. - The Royal ladies must wear hats/fascinators at all times
This ridiculous rule is false. The ladies wear hats and fascinators only on certain occasions such as church services, royal christenings, horse races like Royal Ascot, or at events such as Remembrance Day. Regular royal visits or engagements doesn’t require hats at all but, they can wear them if they want to. What matters is they dress properly. - The Royal ladies MUST absolutely wear skirts everywhere
Another ridiculous made up rule! While it may sound like something a member of the royal family must do. It is absolutely not the case. Perhaps in the 1940s to 1960s the much senior royal ladies such as Queen Elizabeth,The Queen Mother; Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Margaret, The Countess of Snowdon are always seen wearing skirts everywhere. But, that is simply the fashion and culture at the time. As the modern age rolls in, modern princesses such as Princess Anne, The Princess Royal and Diana, Princess of Wales followed the trends of their time and incorporated trousers in their attire. Now, The Duchess of Cambridge and The Duchess of Sussex a.k.a Meghan Markle would often wear trousers during their royal visits. No problem at all! - Members of The Royal Family have to ask The Queen’s permission to marry
Not quite. This rule only applies to the first six in line to the throne. They are required to formally ask the Monarch’s permit. But, the rest of them? They don’t necessarily have to. An example is the marriages of Prince Harry with Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie with Jack Brooksbank. The former had to ask The Queen’s permission because at the time, he was the sixth in line. The later didn’t have to do so. Even though she’s also The Queen’s grand child, she was ninth in line. - Royal ladies must always wear stilettos
By this point, I think you can see that most of the ‘made up’ rules focuses on women’s attire. For those who are not familiar with the Royal Family, these rules might seem like it is actually true. That couldn’t be farther than the truth. While yes, most of the time The Princesses and Duchesses of the Royal Family wear stilettos to royal visit or engagements. They don’t always wear them, though. Certainly they aren’t required to wear them at all times! In fact, The Duchess of Cambridge sported a number of sneakers on many occasions.
There you have it! Members of the Royal Family are pretty special. They do have to follow certain guidelines and protocols when it comes to living their life but, regular folks really love to use hyperbole when they talk about these people. Mundane things blown out of proportion. At the end of the day, the Royal Family are people too. They just happen to live a pretty unique life.
