The 2021 Leadership Training (LDK-CP) by HIMSI
Another year, another leadership training, and another online activity. The pandemic is still going on in Indonesia, more challenging than ever as our country is struggling with the second wave of Covid-19. On June, 10th 2021, HIMSI conducts the second stage of Leadership Training or Latihan Dasar Kepemimpinan untuk Calon Pengurus (Or we call this event as the Himsi’s Creed). Unlike the one in April, this event is made to prepare activists who will be selected as the new organizer of HIMSI in the 2022-2023 period. Not all activists will become part of the BoM or a coordinator for divisions, but the BoM will select some. By how and when? Please, wait for the news in the future.
Like many events managed by HIMSI, President Pieter Bagaskara Astadiningrat started it with an opening speech. Troopers were told to fill the attendance list (while a dangdut koplo was being played in the background). Pieter wished that all the participants could be the future leader of HIMSI.
Next is a presentation by HIMSI’s Vice President, Clara Nathania. She brought the topics of history, divisions, and many more (HIMSI internally). The presentation was finished quickly, and because she still had more time, Clara asked some Troopers about their experience in HIMSI. Naladevanka Dwilfia Annisa Punto (a first-year student from the HR Division) said she felt sad because not many people attended the first event of HIMSI in this period.
Pieter retook the wheel and presented about branding. His main point is how to make HIMSI become a well-known organization. The concern arose because not many people know that HIMSI stands for Himpunan Mahasiswa Sastra Inggris. He plans to bring many exciting events and promote them through our department Instagram account.
After Clara and Pieter, this time is Nadia Salsabila’s turn. The Secretary of HIMSI talked about HIMSI’s social media and website. She explained the content of HIMSI’s Instagram. Currently, the PR (Public Relations) Division is the one that runs the account. They post anything, from music (HIMSI’s Jukebox), movie recommendations and posts celebrating many important days. As for the website, I’m the coordinator. As usual, you can submit any articles or original poetry works through me to be featured on this website. Not only HIMSI’s social media, but Nadia also presented about proposal. Especially because our university has its own layout at Scribees.
Before the event went on pause, the Head of English Department, Irfan Rifai, gave a speech for the future HIMSI leaders. He hoped for the best of HIMSI and wished the English Department students to stay “hungry” for knowledge. Sir Irfan was not entirely wrong; the participants were hungry as the time was nearing 12 PM. So, the committee put the event on pause and told the Troopers to be back by 12:10. Like our previous Leadership Training, Nadia became our radio personality and opened requests for songs!
The last person to do a presentation is Ahmad FIkri Adzhani. Since he is HIMSI’s Treasurer, his topic is about… you guessed it, treasuring! He explained many points about his job description, from making a monthly journal, to what kind of report SCAC (Student Club & Activity Center) accepts. He also explained the monthly payment that the Troopers need to pay to support HIMSI and all of its programs. Fikri acknowledged that his topic is heavy, so he made many jokes about how quiet the participants are.
At the end of today’s event, the committee asked all the participants to go to Padlet and fill it with criticism towards HIMSI and BoM. This Padlet session brought so much laughter and joy because nobody gave criticism. Instead, they wrote something funny and uploaded funny memes.
This year HIMSI’s Creed is the second time that HIMSI conducts LDK-CP online like this because of the condition. Although this is an online activity, the event is still fun, and many serious points are successfully being delivered. Aside from our Head of Department, the 2020-2021 HIMSI President was also present. Sherdy Tanzarez said that HIMSI had shown a good improvement over Pieter’s presidency. He hoped that the organization is in good condition internally too. With that, HIMSI’s Creed for this year ended. Let’s hope there will be many good leaders coming from today’s participants to lead HIMSI in the next period.
