Friday Fact: The Story of the Bird in Blue!
How twitter started?
Early in 2006, NYU student Jack Dorsey revealed a fresh online communication idea with some of his employees at Odeo, a podcasting firm, and the rest is history. Dorsey’s concept was for a platform that would let users to send short messages to groups of individuals, much like text messaging. The original version of this platform was known as “twttr,” and it was only utilized by Odeo employees. Twitter was launched to the general public on July 15, 2006. In the early months, the website received roughly 20,000 tweets per day, but by 2007, when Twitter was a huge subject at the South by Southwest Interactive festival, that number had risen to 60,000.
How did twitter become popular?
Twitter began to gain traction in the social media realm after gaining so much attention during the South by Southwest Interactive festival. By 2008, the website was receiving 300,000 tweets per day, which had grown to 50 million tweets per day by early 2010. This social networking platform became popular not only with people who wanted to share messages with their friends, but it also became one of the simplest ways for businesses to advertise and communicate with their customers. Soon after, TV shows and corporations began promoting hashtags and encouraged users to use them in their tweets, and Twitter handles grew in popularity as a personal and professional identity.
How twitter is doing today
Twitter has been one of the most popular social media platforms in recent years. Every day, people and businesses use this social media site, and nearly 500 million tweets are sent out. Twitter has evolved into a valuable tool for businesses of all kinds, allowing them to communicate with customers, stay current on trends, and promote their content and other website features.
Recently, Elon Musk decided to acquire Twitter for $44 billion on Monday, marking the world’s richest man’s win over the prominent social network frequented by world leaders, celebrities, and cultural trendsetters.
Mr. Musk agreed to buy Twitter for $54.20 a share, a 38 percent premium over the company’s share price this month before he revealed he was the only shareholder. According to Dealogic statistics, it would be the largest deal to take a firm private – something Mr. Musk has suggested he will do with Twitter – in at least two decades.
