Created by and for the people

The United Nation’ Sustainable Development Goals were not made only based on agreements of solely one party. Instead, it is agreed by various nations upon the Rio+20 Summit in 2012, which was recorded as the largest summit ever held in UN history. The idea is to determine certain goals to achieve by 2030 that packs loads of complex dilemmas in society ranging from climate change to poverty.

It leaves no one behind

The 17 goals included within the Sustainable Development Goals were deliberately determined to be very diverse to make sure that they leave no one behind. Meaning that the zero hunger goals is not only created for those lacking resources in developing countries, but also advanced ones, eradicating poverty not only in devastated places in the world, so on and so forth. This was determined after it was decided that our standard of living quality improvements is simply no0t enough.

Demands risk-informed development results

The results that the Sustainable Development Goals made are required to be, of course, sustainable. That means that any kind of development and workers serving for these causes need to be mindful and aware about the risks the developments might bring. For instance, the many disasters that have happened between 2002 and 2012 affected 40% of the world’s population, resulting in 1.2 million fatalities, based on information disclosed by UNDP. These kinds of risks need to be considered as to prevent worse or even any consequences at all.

The clock is ticking

Ever since the goals were determined, people have been arguing about how impossible it might seem to achieve these extravagant goals by 2030, thus making the idea seems far-fetched for some people. Now, that 2020 is approaching, it leaves us only one decade to complete these goals. Furthermore, these goals are beyond the results and more focused on our attempts and struggle to make the world a better place. What matters more is that we have tried and made differences in the world that makes it worth living in.
