Five-star airports in the world
5-Star Airports is the most prestigious award for the airport industry organized by UK-based independent aviation consultancy SKYTRAX. And become a benchmark of quality for all airports in the world.
These 5-Star Airports are ranked based on the results of the ranking by the independent aviation consulting agency SKYTRAX. The results of this ranking are taken from the assessment of aircraft departures, aircraft arrivals, transfer experiences, evaluation of airport facilities, terminal comfort and cleanliness, shopping centers, food and beverages, staff services, and security/immigration.
And here is a list of eight five-star airports in the world:
- Singapore Changi Airport
Singapore Changi Airport is the main airport for Singaporeans and is one of the largest transportation bases in Southeast Asia. Changi Airport has been named the best airport in the world by SKYTRAX every year since 2013. This airport is also one of the busiest airports in the world both in terms of international passengers and cargo traffic.
- Chubu Centrair International Airport
Chubu Centrair International Airport (中部国際空港 Chūbu Kokusai Kūkō) is an international airport located on an artificial island in Ise Bay, Tokoname City, Nagoya, Japan. Centrair Airport is classified as a First Class Airport and is the main gateway to the Chubu region of Japan. The name ‘Centrair’ is taken from the way the Japanese spell the word ‘Central’ which means in English the airport is called Central Japan International Airport.
- Haikou Milean International Airport
Haikou Milean International Airport (海口美兰国际机场 Hǎikǒu Měilán Guójì Jīchǎng) is an airport operating in the Haikou region, the capital city of Hainan province, China. The airport was opened in 1999 to replace Dayingshan Airport, which is located on Guoxing Avenue. Haikou Airport is managed by the company HNA Infrastructure.
- Hamad International Airport
Hamad International Airport (مطار الدولي, Maṭār amad al-Duwalī) is an international airport located in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This airport replaces Doha International Airport as the main airport in Qatar. The airport, formerly known as New Doha International Airport, was scheduled to open in 2009, but after going through several obstacles, the airport was finally officially opened on April 30, 2014 symbolically by the landing of a plane from Qatar Airways. Qatar’s national airline, Qatar Airways, officially moved base to Hamad airport on 27 May 2014.
- Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong International Airport (Chek Lap Kok Airport, , ) is the main airport in Hong Kong. Located on the island of Chek Lap Kok, most of the construction is built on reclaimed land above the sea. The airport, which started operating in 1998 to replace Tai Kak Airport, was previously a regular winner of the Airport of the Year title at the World Airport Awards. The airport has one of the largest terminal buildings in the world (the largest in the world when it first opened in 1998).
- Incheon International Airport
Incheon International Airport (인천 Incheon Gugje Gonghang) is the largest airport in South Korea, the main airport serving the capital Seoul, and one of the busiest airports in the world. Incheon International Airport has been named the best airport in the world by Airport Council International (ACI) and has been named the cleanest airport and best transit airport in the world by SKYTRAX.
- Munich Airport
Munich Airport (Flughafen München Franz Josef Strauß“) is a large international airport located in Munich, the Capital of the state of Bavaria, Germany. Munich Airport is the 2nd busiest airport in Germany after Frankfurt Airport in terms of passenger traffic, and the 7th busiest in Europe. The airport served 42 million customers in 2016. Munich Airport is also the 15th busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger traffic. The airport is used as a secondary base by the airline Lufthansa.
- Tokyo International Airport
Tokyo International Airport (東京国際空港 Tōkyō Kokusai Kūkō) or better known as Haneda Airport (羽田空港 Haneda Kūkō) is one of the two major airports in Japan along with Narita International Airport. The airport is also the main base for Japan’s two major airlines, namely Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. Haneda was Japan’s main airport serving international flights until 1978, from 1978 to 2010 Haneda was more focused on serving domestic flights, then since 2010 Haneda has returned to serve international flights along with the opening of these four airport runways.
