Food Insecurity: Quick Facts & Where Indonesia Stands

  1. In 2020, the number of malnourished individuals is expected to reach 768 million. This equates to 10% of the world’s population, a growth of around 118 million people from 2019.

  2. The Global Hunger Index placed Indonesia 70th out of 117 qualified nations. The reflects Indonesia’s chronic hunger problem, which has resulted in a large number of cases of stunted development, caused by a child’s diet lacking in nutrients.
  3. Aside from coordinating with nonprofit organizations globally to combat hunger in Indonesia, The Indonesian government established the Raskin Program to provide subsidized rice to the most needy households on a monthly basis.
