#MeetOurLeaders : Get to Know Our LCVP OGV, Alvin Chou
This week, we have had the opportunity to dive into the AIESEC journey of our current Local Committee Vice President of Outgoing Global Volunteer (LCVP OGV), Alvin Chou. We have asked several questions regarding his AIESEC journey, and here’s what he had to say.
How did you find out about AIESEC and what made you decide to join?
The first time I found out about AIESEC was when my friend asked me to join the organization. She thought my values and experiences fit well with AIESEC’s, so I applied. But besides that, after doing further research, I was truly inspired. I felt like AIESEC’s vision and mission aligned with my life purpose — to help and inspire people.
What made you want to take up the role of an LCP?
I took this opportunity to give back to AIESEC after all the things it taught me in my first year as a Team Leader. I would like to contribute to the growth of AIESEC because I know this organization has a lot of potential to grow and I personally think that this campus needs the opportunities AIESEC provides for its students.
What was the toughest challenge you faced in your experience? How did you overcome it?
The toughest challenge would be the pre-LCVP election. There were a thousand things to consider regarding the future of this LC, how things might change, and how things are going to work. Everything was unsure; about the future plans of this LC, especially in the COVID-19 situation, yet I always try to have a vision of those. The vision about my future teammates, people who are gonna work with me, and many more.
I overcame that by really trusting myself, to believe that there are things I can control and can’t. It really opened my mind about the future and how to deal with uncertainties.
How is your experience as an LCVP so far? Any quotes or motivations for your teammates?
As an LCVP so far, it’s been wonderful. I got to meet a lot of cool people in my division who are truly amazing. Seeing how they work and grow within AIESEC gives me so much joy and happiness!
Ask yourself what makes you happy regularly. Understand yourself more — it helps everything.
To conclude, Alvin Chou has had his fair share of struggles and achievements throughout his AIESEC journey, notably from being a Team Leader to becoming an LCVP, shaping him into the leader that he is today.
