How To Reduce Global Warming At The End Of Pandemic

Although the pandemic period is starting to improve, the earth is getting hotter and has an impact on daily life. According to the Head of BMKG, Dwikorita, the increase in air temperature experienced by Indonesia is increasing over time and its frequency often makes the climate in Indonesia chaotic. Although Indonesia’s average surface temperature is generally lower than the global average, several cities in Indonesia have temperatures that are higher than the world average. The increase in carbon dioxide concentrations since 2000 has increased 10 times higher than in the previous 800,000 years.

Although there is a vaccine for Covid-19, but not for global warming. Global warming leads us to climate change, the single greatest health threat facing humanity. Climate change itself is a long-term climate change on earth or a region on earth, which is caused by none other than Greenhouse Gases where the most significant ones to know are water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) which some greenhouse gases are produced by natural processes, such as methane (CH4) which is produced through agricultural practices, in the form of livestock manure, other examples such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) are mostly a result of respiration, and from the combustion of fossil fuels. fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas. Another major source of CO2 is deforestation. Now these expressions will lead us to the question ‘how does climate change and global warming pose a threat to mankind?’ And to answer that is the fact that this climate change could lead us to hotter temperatures, more severe storms, increased drought, warming and rising sea levels, species loss, not enough food, more health risks, and poverty and displacement. And this condition will happen faster than we expect if we don’t do something to reduce global warming.

As a tropical country whose territory is crossed by the equator, it is very vulnerable to the impacts of global climate change. We may not feel the impact of global warming as directly as the Covid-19 pandemic, but we must take concrete steps to help limit or reduce global warming by making some changes to our daily activities. Examples of activities are:

1.Using public transportation >>> driving a car
This helps reduce CO2 carbon emissions or using electric vehicles, walking or cycling which not only helps us reduce carbon emissions but also makes you healthier. In long-distance travel it is recommended to use trains instead of planes, because CO2 emissions per capita can be reduced by half compared to planes, are more affordable and child-friendly.

2.Energy saving
This can be done by turning off and unplugging electrical appliances when not in use, this small gesture can also help you save on electricity costs. Another thing you can do to save energy is to make sure that the new electronic device that you buy is energy efficient.

3.Reduce and recycle
Gradually reduce and recycle our everyday items even for water, just as we should conserve and recycle water in an effort to catch rainwater.

4.Protect and expand forests
This is because forests can reduce global temperatures and are the key to rain in humid gardens and fields. We also need to spread knowledge about climate change to others. Because, the more people adopt this practice, the closer we can be to achieving sustainable development without compromising our well-being.

Therefore, to reduce and limit the effects of global warming, the first step we take is to make small changes to our own activities or habits and increase our confidence to be more able to deal with the environment around us. Because climate change is not only the responsibility of certain governments or countries but the global responsibility of every human being, and our duty is to actively participate in saving the environment by adapting to more nature-friendly habits, the way we can adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic.
