Why You Should Watch icarly’s Revival Show

It is not uncommon for fans to wish –or even demand– for their favorite shows to do a reunion. Some might even wish for a revival episode or film to be made years after the show ended. However, it is not always doable. The most probable one would probably be to do a reunion. In fact, in 2020, many popular shows and films did a reunion via zoom calls, such as Mean Girls, Lizzy McGuire, High School Musical, and The Maze Runner. Some were even lucky enough to have a reunion special broadcasted on television, such as Friends, Harry Potter, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. With all the popularity and a big fan base, producers would feel even more confident in bringing back a show or making a spin-off. Yet, there is always a probability of failure due to bad writing or not meeting fans’ expectations.
The original icarly show tells the story of a web show host named Carly with her two best friends, Freddie, who is also their producer, and Sam, who is her co-host. Other than that, there is also Spencer, Carly’s aspiring artist brother whose sculptures always end up catching on fire. There is also Gibby, who likes taking off his shirt while screaming his name, and Nevel whose life mission is to ruin Icarly but also to be in a relationship with Carly. There are also other major side characters who made the show funny and loved by a lot of people. The show ran for five years with six seasons with a tv film and crossover special. The show ended with Carly going to Italy with her father.
Years later, a revival show was announced and began filming in March 2021. The revival show takes place nine years after the original show’s ending. Carly has moved back to the Bushwell Plaza, which is now owned by Spencer who became a wealthy renowned artist. After all these years, she decided to relaunch her web show. Present-day Freddie has gone through two divorces and adopted a child named Millicent. Sadly, Jennette McCurdy decided not to reprise her role as she has quit acting. Thus, a new character named Harper is made to play Carly’s best friend and is very different from Sam. However, writer Franchesca Ramsey confirmed that Harper’s role is not to replace Sam.
Upon hearing the news, many fans (including myself) were beyond excited and expectant about the show. It was originally supposed to cater to children, but they decided against it. Instead, the show is made for the fans who have grown up with the show which means the themes and topics are wider than the original. Even though it is no longer a children’s show, they still stay true to their roots and refer to many details from the originals. For example, the main characters still live in the Bushwell Plaza and the appearance of Spencer’s taco spaghetti. Other than that, the Groovy Smoothie which was their hangout place in the original series also made an appearance.
It closed to a rat infestation and Spencer decided to purchase it. He later turned the Groovy Smoothie into his own restaurant which he named “Shay What”. It would be more amazing if Spencer sells his spaghetti tacos there though. What would make it even better is if T-bo (played by BooG!e) came, his character was very funny in the original. In other news, some of the characters from the original did reprise their roles for some episodes, such as

The show managed to create a new point of view for viewers to enjoy while still incorporating details from the original show. Unlike other cases, icarly’s revival show is written well and allows fans to reminisce about the good old days without the cringe. The cameo appearances from the original characters also made me jolt up and become excited as it feels like I am seeing an old friend. Furthermore, the reception for the icarly revival show has been good so far with a 100 percent approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Paramount+ also gave a green light for a second season when the first one was not even finished yet. So, what are you waiting for? Go watch it now!
Bonus: Cosgrove remaking her iconic meme for the show’s opening sequence.
