HIMSI X EDSA 2022 BENCHMARK!

Hello everyone! HIMSI is back with good news this month. Last Saturday on the 18th of June, HIMSI conducted its very first benchmark. This first HIMSI benchmark was partnered with Diponegoro University’s English Department Students Association (EDSA). Since the event was held with the cooperation of EDSA, HIMSI and EDSA had many meetings before the event to ensure the best outcome from the benchmark event. There are many goals as to why a benchmark event has to be held, but most importantly, this event will help HIMSI as an organization by knowing other English Departments and learning new ideas from each other. As can be seen with how the pandemic is not showing its weaknesses, the event was held through Zoom, which was provided by HIMSI. In the hopes of getting to know other English Department’s organizations, and increasing the knowledge of HIMSI’s members about how an organization is being carried on, we are happy to say that HIMSI’s first ever benchmark for this year was conducted successfully.

The benchmark which was attended by 82 participants in total including the crews, DPI, and activists from both HIMSI and EDSA, started at 2 p.m. in Zoom with an opening which was done by the two MCs from each respective organization, Aaron and Zaidan which was then continued with the National Anthem of Indonesia and then the opening speech by Sir Hadiyanto (EDSA’s Organization Builder), Ardhia Mantasena as EDSA’s current 2022 President and lastly Handiko Wijaya as HIMSI’s current 2022 President. The event was then continued with a 50 minutes presentation done by EDSA in hopes to introduce their general organization information, divisions, members, and programs. After the presentation, the event then was put on hold for 30 minutes so the participants could take a rest in between sessions. The 2022 EDSA X HIMSI Benchmark resumed with an 18 minutes presentation by HIMSI with the same hopes as the previous EDSA presentation, the presentation was read by Handiko Wijaya as HIMSI’s current 2022 President, Aileen Josephine as the Secretary, and Marianne Shania as the Treasurer of HIMSI.

After the presentation, there were five minutes of the ice-breaking session, which was a joke session given by EDSA’s current 2022 Vice President, Adyatma. Then the event continued with the awaited Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which is a breakout room divided into HIMSI and EDSA’s divisions in the organization. The FGD was then led by each coordinator from each HIMSI and EDS divisions. The FGD was filled with an introduction for the first five minutes, then for the next 20 minutes it was filled with a discussion regarding a study case which was provided by coordinators of each divisions. While the activists members of HIMSI and EDSA had a FGD in breakout rooms, the DPI from EDSA and HIMSI stayed in the main room and had their own discussions. After the FGD and discussion, everyone came back to the main room and then the event continued with a Q&A session which lasted for approximately 38 minutes with many members from EDSA and HIMSI who asked many questions about the other organization.

The 2022 HIMSI x EDSA Benchmark came to an end with the last session which is the certificate exchange between HIMSI and EDSA and a documentation session with all of the participants opening their cameras and taking picture together. Finally, this successfully ends the benchmark event. Though there were some technical issues with HIMSI’s presentation duration being shorter than scheduled, the event still made it through for the rest of the sessions. Congratulations and a big Thank You to Diponegoro University’s EDSA and also all the crews from both respective organizations who helped with the event till the end. We hope next year, HIMSI could conduct the benchmark offline, and while we’re at it, let’s also hope for the pandemic to come to an end as there might be some possibilities of HIMSI’s events to be held offline with everyone.
