Sate or satay in English, is a popular Indonesian street food with many variations spread throughout the country’s regions. Historians believe that the earliest formula of satay originated from Javanese cuisine, then spread to almost everywhere in the country. Indonesian satay is usually served with kecap manis or a sweet soy sauce with a combination of a lontong (a type of rice cake) as the side dish. The meat varies from chicken, beef, rabbit, fish, and many others.
