CIC BLESSED TO BLESS OTHERS 2021! (July 2-July 9 2021)
In the current pandemic situation, countries around the world are suffering terribly, including Indonesia. The people around us are experiencing various hardships from health issues (such as contracting and struggling to recover from COVID-19), to financial problems (such as losing ones’ job or company bankruptcy), and many more. In these times, physical and mental wellbeing among society are constantly be challenged. As for those who are fortunate and have more than enough during this time, it is important to lend a helping hand to others as an act of strengthening one another to endure this crisis together. For example, within stated-run organizations (such as Yayasan Sayap Ibu), businesses (such as restaurants), and student organizations (such as FARCO BINUS) have been carrying out social initiatives such as donation opportunities to raise funds to fulfil the various urgent needs of certain communities (such as face masks, basic commodities, and PCR Rapid Tests). All organizations, everyone, who is able should make an effort to help and be a blessing to others rather than focusing on oneself. This is the idea of being “prosocial”, which is acting in the best interests of others.
Based on Biblical teachings, we are called by God to serve others, just as Jesus Christ came to this earth not to be served, but to serve. In Galatians 6:2, it says to “bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”. And in Hebrews 13:16, it says “do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” It is our duty to be a light to others. Now is the opportunity for all of us to do good by helping our brothers and sisters in need. Therefore, through this initiative, we aim to encourage BINUS International christian students to promote wellbeing in society. The overall purpose not merely to encourage students to obtain Social Hour points through joining our social campaign, but more than that it is to create a positive, meaningful contribution to society in a time where it is needed the most. The aim of the seminar is to raise awareness to the general public on what they can do, even from home, to support vulnerable communities. CIC held:
