TRIUMPH OF REASON: BINUS DEBATERS EXCEL AT NOVED 2025

Once upon September, in Bandung Institute of Technology, a great battle had commenced, a battle of Wits and Conviction, where parties exchanged thoughts and rebuttals, finally gaining a triumph through persuasive arguments. For such is but a Debate competition unraveling called NOVED, or more commonly known as “Nusantara Overland Varsity English Debate”. NOVED is but a mere debate competition. Its roots are tied heavily to university debate in Indonesia as a whole since 1998, previously known as Java Overland Varsities English Debate is one of the oldest “classics” parliamentary debate competitions and the oldest parliamentary debate in Indonesia. Thus renowned for maintaining the highest standard of debating excellence. The 2025 edition of NOVED took place online over two weekends, September 6-7 and 13-14, 2025. This event brought together some of the brightest university debaters from across Indonesia. Using the British Parliamentary format, the tournament featured six preliminary rounds in both Open and Novice categories, all conducted in English. Representing 

BINUS University, Aiden Hioe, and Joseline Fransiska Wijaya joined the intellectual arena with great determination . Aiden is stepping into a national debate competition beyond what he has ever experienced; his teammate Joseline is seasoned from her prior success at IWGM 2025, led with experience and poise. Together, they form the BNEC team that represents Binus.

BINUS University secured an impressive third place overall due to its strong teamwork and consistent performance. This success highlights their strategic skills, adaptability, and debating ability. The achievements of the team also show how effective BINUS’s debate program is and encourage new members to continue this tradition. With this great performance, BINUS University’s standing in debating competitions continues to grow. The team’s efforts at NOVED 2025 reflect the dedication and resilience of all BINUS University debaters. More challenges and achievements will surely await them on their journey.
