IVED 2026: BINUS Debaters Shine on the National Stage
In a prestigious arena of intellect, argumentation, and critical thinking, the Indonesian Varsity English Debate (IVED) 2026 once again brought together the brightest university debaters across Indonesia. This year’s competition was organised by the Student English Forum of Institut Teknologi Bandung in partnership with Aurgumentum Indonesia and was entirely administered online, thereby enabling participants from all over the country to participate.
Among the many outstanding performances, one achievement stood out. Team A, representing Bina Nusantara University, delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, ultimately securing the title of Co–2nd Runner-Up in the Open Category.
The squad, which consisted of Joy Celine, Bintang Putra Ari Ramadhan, and Beyounce Lorraine A. Guingab, demonstrated strong consistency, strategic depth, and persuasive delivery in both the preliminary and elimination rounds. Their journey was characterised by resilience, cooperation, and skill, as they competed against top-tier debaters from universities throughout Indonesia.
Using the Australasian Parliamentary format, IVED challenges participants to construct sharp arguments, respond critically, and communicate effectively within strict time limits. Throughout the competition, the BINUS team showcased clear case-building, well-structured arguments, and impactful rebuttals. Those qualities placed them among the top teams in the competition.
This achievement highlights the strength of BINUS’s debating culture and its commitment to developing students’ critical thinking and communication skills. Securing a podium finish in such a competitive environment reflects the team’s dedication, preparation, and continuous pursuit of excellence.
IVED has been recognised as the oldest and most esteemed parliamentary debate competition in Indonesia since its inception in 1998. It remains a platform for students to engage in meaningful discourse on contemporary issues, broaden their perspectives, and refine their critical thinking.
The BINUS team’s success at IVED 2026 not only contributes to the university’s expanding list of accomplishments in debate but also serves as an inspiration for other students to strive for excellence and accept challenges in competitive environments.
The success of the BINUS team at IVED 2026 marks another proud milestone for the university’s debating community. It is hoped that this accomplishment will inspire more BINUS students to challenge themselves, step into competitive platforms, and continue building a legacy of excellence in debate.
