A Planet Saving Tour by Coldplay

Who says sustainability can’t be cool? You wouldn’t believe it until you see Coldplay’s new world tour concept. After four years’ absence from touring, Coldplay made an impressive comeback by bringing up a sustainable tour concept with amazing idea.

Reduce: Cutting the consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 50%.

Reinvent: Develop new ecological technologies and implement innovative methods of sustainable tourism.

Restore: Making the tour more beneficial for nature, by funding a portfolio of nature and technology-based projects.

REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS THROUGH SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL PLANS 

Coldplay will primarily rely on commercial flights while utilizing electric vehicles or biofuel for ground freight and transportation. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, they collaborated with Nestle in adopting a Sustainable Aviation Fuel that produces 100% from waste and residues. In partnership with SAP, Coldplay also developed a carbon tracker app and gave a merchandise discount reward for fans who commit to use low-carbon transport.

REINVENT NEW GREEN TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT THE CONCERT

A kinetic dance floor and electricity-generating pedal bicycle will be installed at the concert to promote fans’ involvement in creating a sustainable concert experience. These installations will convert the fans’ dancing and cycling activities into energy to help power the show.

RESTORING THE EARTH BY USING BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS

Most of the concert attributes will be produced by using eco-friendly materials. The stage will be constructed from a combination of lightweight, low-carbon, reusable and recycled materials. The LED wristbands and the confetti will be made from 100% compostable, plant-based materials.
