Almost every activity can be done through a gadget, from searching for lecture materials, communicating with friends, completing assignments, finding entertainment, to earning income through digital platforms. For students, a gadget is not only a communication tool, but also a part of academic activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, behind their benefits, excessive gadget use can bring negative effects. Many students open social media, watch videos, play games, or check notifications repeatedly, even when studying or doing assignments. This habit can make students lose focus easily. Notifications that appear can disturb concentration and reduce productivity. If this continues, gadget dependence may lead to procrastination, poor sleep patterns, lack of physical activity, and reduced face-to-face social interaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This condition is often not realized because gadget use has become normal. When students are distracted too often, their study time becomes less effective. For example, a student may open their phone only to reply to a message, but then continue scrolling through social media. As a result, assignments that should be finished faster become delayed. This shows that students need a simple way to take a short break from gadgets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One simple way to reduce gadget distraction is by practicing silent walking. Silent walking is a walking activity without digital distractions, such as listening to music, opening social media, receiving notifications, or using a phone. During silent walking, a person focuses only on walking and paying attention to the surrounding environment. This activity gives the body and mind a chance to rest from screen exposure and digital stimulation received too often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In general, physical activity such as walking can help maintain physical and mental health. Walking makes the body move more actively, supports blood circulation, and helps the mind feel relaxed. In addition, reducing screen exposure and notifications for a certain time can help a person become more focused. Therefore, silent walking can become a simple habit that supports balance between technology use and student well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Walking outdoors, in places such as parks, green paths, or areas around campus, can give positive effects to students. Fresh air and natural surroundings can help the mind become calmer, reduce stress, and restore energy. Silent walking can also train mindfulness, which means the ability to be present in the current moment. By walking without using a phone, students can become more aware of their surroundings, body condition, and thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Besides supporting mental health, silent walking also benefits physical health. Walking can make the body more active, help improve posture, and maintain fitness. This is important for students who spend much time sitting in class, doing assignments in front of a laptop, or staring at phone screens. Students can start from small steps, such as walking for five to ten minutes between classes, going to class without opening their phone, or not always using earphones while walking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This habit is easy to apply because it does not require special tools, extra cost, or a faraway place. Students can do it around campus, near home, or when moving from one place to another. The most important thing is the intention to separate themselves from gadget screens for a while. Although it looks simple, this habit can help students build self-awareness and reduce automatic gadget use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students do not have to stop using technology completely, because gadgets still have an important role in academic activities and daily life. What students need is to use gadgets more wisely and in a balanced way. They can set gadget-free time, such as during meals, before sleeping, or while walking. Screen time features can also be used to monitor and limit unproductive application use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In conclusion, silent walking can become a simple habit that is useful for students. Walking without gadget distractions, especially in outdoor or natural environments, can help students feel calmer, improve focus, reduce stress, and decrease gadget dependence.
