There are things we learnt about color during our preschool or elementary days, Primary and also Secondary color. Red, Orange, Blue, Green, Yellow, Violet (in no specific order). Every color has meaning to itself, for example Red can be denounced as something brave or courageous. Blue can be denounced as something responsible or calm. Further meanings can be explored through the article titled Color Theory for Designers, Part 1: The Meaning of Color by Cameron Chapman. As every color has meaning and that there are millions of color combinations that have been recorded over years, the question is now how to determine which color to use so that a business can run better, or what color hex should I use to make this website prettier, and so on. Color choice can alter the course of your business, even can boost your sales and your production rate if and only if it is maximized fully.

Google has been the leading search engine for years now. Google’s famous logo, the word “google” itself, and its recognizable color palette; blue, red, yellow, green, has been a product of refinement from years, taking input and also ideas from experts in the field. Color can determine meaning and also likeability. 1998, Google’s color choice for the logo was defined as something that isn’t pleasing and many in the corporation weren’t happy with the design of the logo. Instead of making a new logo, they simply asked Ruth Kedar, who at that time was simply an assistant professor. She came up with several designs and then finally came up with the logo shown below in 1999.

The logo itself has a deeper meaning, where the color green, which was the only color not being a primary color, portrays the value of the company. Google was meant to become a company that differs, stands out and also rebels from the current trends. They were happy with the color choice, it stands until this day. The design however had several changes, like the font and also the exclamation mark, which was Yahoo!‘s iconic trademark. Today the logo is shown below:

As shown above, it is also determined that the color choice did not change since 1999 and it has been Google’s color palette for years now. Color choice should be something worth considering as it can define the personality or the image of the company itself.

Now as the topic narrows down to computer scientists, how can this article push them forward in their studies?
