The ten Binus IR students as delegates to Thammasat University MUN 2017<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On January\u00a011 to 17, 2017, ten\u00a0Bina Nusantara International Relations University\u00a0students participated in\u00a0a competition of Model United Nations (MUN), a simulation of sessions of the United Nations, which was held at Thammasat\u00a0University, Bangkok, Thailand. The students were\u00a0Anthony Gunawan, Elica, Ilmia, Imanuel Kasehung, Marsella Winata, Noto Suoneto, Rafi Nugraha, Ratu Ghea, Ukhti Rahma Sari, and Vivian.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Thammasat\u00a0University\u00a0MUN was one of the largest competitions in Thailand, in which participants from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, France, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Maldives participated. They discussed global issues and formulated the solutions, which were then debated to create the best resolutions, and then represented and adopted by the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

In this occasion, the Binus IR students were divided into three\u00a0councils, which were\u00a0United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and\u00a0United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). They discussed several issues, e.g.\u00a0indigenous people, terrorism, human trafficking and\u00a0migrant smuggling, climate change, to gender equality.<\/p>\n

Aside from competing in the MUN, the students also visited the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)\u00a0Office in Bangkok to discuss the role of youth in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). This was a good opportunity for the students where they could learn how the United Nations worked in resolving global problems by promoting diplomacy among states. The students also used this opportunity to gain connections\u00a0from several states\u00a0and to learn the cultures from\u00a0other nations.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the MUN, the students received several achievements. For example, Elica won Best Position Paper at the UNDP session as an Israeli delegate, Noto won Best Position Paper and Honorable Mention Delegate at the UNODC session as a Burmese\u00a0delegate, while Rafi won Honorable Mention Delegate at the OHCHR session.<\/p>\n

Pada 11\u00a0\u2013 17\u00a0Januari 2017, sepuluh mahasiswa\/i Hubungan Internasional Universitas Bina Nusantara mengikuti ajang kompetisi\u00a0Model United Nations<\/em> (MUN), atau simulasi sidang PBB, yang diselenggarakan di Thammasat\u00a0University, Bangkok, Thailand. Mahasiswa\/i itu antara lain Anthony Gunawan, Elica, Ilmia, Imanuel Kasehung, Marsella Winata, Noto Suoneto, Rafi Nugraha, Ratu Ghea, Ukhti Rahma Sari, dan\u00a0Vivian.<\/p>\n

Thammasat\u00a0University\u00a0MUN adalah\u00a0salah satu\u00a0kompetisi terbesar di Thailand, yang diikuti\u00a0peserta dari berbagai negara seperti Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Perancis, Afrika Selatan, Inggris, dan\u00a0Maladewa. Mereka\u00a0mendiskusikan isu-isu global dan\u00a0merancang\u00a0solusinya, yang kemudian\u00a0diperdebatkan\u00a0untuk menghasilkan resolusi terbaik, dan lalu\u00a0direpresentasikan\u00a0serta\u00a0diadopsi\u00a0oleh Majelis Umum.<\/p>\n

Dalam kompetisi ini, kesepuluh mahasiswa\/i HI Binus\u00a0terbagi\u00a0ke dalam tiga sesi, yaitu\u00a0Kantor Komisaris Tinggi PBB untuk Hak Asasi Manusia (OHCHR), Program Pembangunan PBB (UNDP), dan Kantor PBB Urusan Narkoba dan Kejahatan (UNODC). Mereka\u00a0mendiskusikan\u00a0berbagai isu, dari\u00a0indigenous people<\/em>, terorisme, perdagangan manusia\u00a0dan\u00a0penyelundupan manusia, perubahan iklim, hingga\u00a0kesetaraan gender.<\/p>\n

Selain berkompetisi dalam\u00a0MUN, para mahasiswa\/i juga\u00a0mengunjungi Kantor Organisasi Pendidikan, Keilmuan, dan Kebudayaan PBB (UNESCO) di\u00a0Bangkok untuk mendiskusikan\u00a0peran pemuda\u00a0dalam mencapai\u00a0tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan (SDGs). Ini merupakan\u00a0peluang bagus\u00a0bagi para mahasiswa\/i, di mana mereka dapat mempelajari bagaimana PBB bekerja dalam menyelesaikan masalah global dengan mengedepankan diplomasi antarnegara.\u00a0Para\u00a0mahasiswa\/i \u00a0juga memanfaatkan peluang ini\u00a0untuk\u00a0mendapatkan koneksi\u00a0dari berbagai negara dan\u00a0untuk\u00a0mempelajari\u00a0budaya negara lain.<\/p>\n

Dalam\u00a0MUN, para mahasiswa\/i berhasil meraih prestasi, antara lain\u00a0Elica meraih\u00a0Best Position Paper dalam sesi\u00a0UNDP sebagai delegasi\u00a0Israel, Noto meraih\u00a0Best Position Paper dan\u00a0Honorable Mention Delegate dalam sesi\u00a0UNODC sebagai delegasi Myanmar, sementara\u00a0Rafi meraih\u00a0Honorable Mention Delegate dalam sesi\u00a0OHCHR.<\/p>\n
